where we would end up ... say, in a crisis with Iran.

(1,947 posts)war with China. That's what was reported after the Iraq invastion. Small problem, however: they might not loan us the money to buy the compeonents from them that we need to attack them.

(18,641 posts)It calms them down a bit when I point out China's armed forces numbers the same as every man, woman, and child in the US. They have over 300 million soldiers ready to go from what I understand.
I guess that means there won't be many deferments to the draft.

(67,112 posts)split earth in half or more. I can't remember what the kill power ratio is, but it seems like at one time it was 50:1 - to kill everything on earth 50 times. Don't quote me on that, could've been 3:1.

(47,675 posts)If Russia fired enough at us to disable our response capacity, the earth would die within a year from the fallout. They'd kill us first, but simultaneously be committing suicide. That's been true since at least 1960. rMoney doesn't have a clue about world history or political diplomacy. He just considers himself to be the anointed king of the USA. He's wrong.

(14,180 posts)August 1962. Only problem is that Romney and his Junta would have triggered Armageddon then and there would be no DU 2 or 3 (or even a Skinner , thereby setting off one of those crazy time-travel paradoxes

(14,180 posts)the combined weight of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, all of whom advocated invading Cuba, thereby precipitating World War III (nuclear). Would Romney have the moral fiber to stand against his Joint Chiefs of Staff??? I highly doubt it.

(10,274 posts)was because both John and brother Bobby knew full well that the JCoS took orders from The President, and NOT the other fucking way around. It took the Chief's (and the CIA) a while to get that through their heads. This whole, "Listen to the Generals on the ground.."
nonsense belies the power of the President to both know that the hell is going on, and then to make COMMAND decisions. Mostly, modern Presidents just want the damn "win" for political purposes (see Jr. and Iraq) and are content to let the ground commanders figure out how to execute. And that ain't the way it was intended to be, as far as I can tell. Obama knows this, and by all reports, his Generals and ground commanders all not only obey him, but like, respect and trust him because of it.
Just thinking about Kennedy kicking his Generals in the balls the way he did makes me smile, and I needed that today. Thanks, coalition-unwilling=)

(47,675 posts)For all of the time our preceding species existed, all of our known history, and all of what we will become, the sum of that period is nothing compared to how long the earth has been around and harbored life. It can start again from the same essentially unchanged creatures that produced what we became. Hopefully it will be a more intelligent dominant species next time.
