Buy meat in quatities on sale, freeze it in small amounts, and use it up over several months. At the moment I have a lot of pork, chicken thighs and legs, fish of different kinds, and a little ground beef.

For vegetables, I buy the large bags at Costco - one each of Normandy, green beans, stir fry, and asparagus will last me three or four months. I also buy fresh carrots, sweet onion, zucchini, and squash, cook up a large skillet of that mix and freeze batches.

Mostly what I buy weekly is milk, salad makings, fruit (but I've been freezing a lot of that), and eggs. If I tried to have chickens for eggs, the foxes and coyotes would get a lot of meat to eat!

Right now my freezer is pretty well packed solid so I'm in good shape for a bit.

I buy stuff from Costco and from the local grocer (on sale) and repack for the freezer.

Chickens have Fort Knox for a home. Concrete stem wall and impenetrable above and below. They can also be alone for a long weekend with plenty of food and water so leaving for a vacation is easier. I’m getting 5-9 eggs a day from my hens. It’s a lot, so we give away a lot.

Now we’re get an inside view of the meat plant conditions here. ’m no Joaquin Phoenix, but when you think about it, wat gives us the right to eat another living being. Plus it just seems nasty.

The only ones that struggle with weight like too much of the vegan cheeses, ice creams etc that are all high fat or like a little too much pasta.

Check out a website Nutritionfacts.org dr Gregor has a book How not to Diet. Maybe some tips there.

Good luck!

about 6 yrs. ago!!! It literally made me sick to my stomach. I had to stop eating red meat, the rest of animal flesh happened after that! in the last 6 or so months, I have given into my cravings and have eaten fish a couple of times! My philosophy was, if I could kill it, dress it, butcher it, cook it, then I could eat it. and only then would I eat it. Normally, I was too lazy to do all that, when making a salad or pasta was easier! And I grew up on a (very old) family cattle ranch!!

Plant based meats are so close to real, some virtually impossible to detect. Plenty of protein in plant based. Mega Cattle farms are destroying the planet. Rotateable crops, save the earth (literally). Soil is so depleted, one day we'll be seeing widespread dustbowls again.

I still enjoy some meat in my meals, but a very small amount
compared to my younger days. Plus, it's too damn expensive
these days.
I'm 69 now and eat probably less than half of what I used to eat.
Overall, not just meat. My metabolism has slowed, thank goodness.

Our beef and pork is expensive since we mainly by locally produced stuff. But the wife and I are both furloughed and not getting paid. So venison and fish it is.
