Former U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said in a new interview that he will not vote for President Trump in November, citing concerns going back before the 2016 campaign.
"I just couldn't support [Trump] long before he started to run. The birtherism thing was just too much for me. And then it piled on," Flake, a frequent critic of the president, told The Washington Post.
Flake also said that a second Trump term could turn younger voters away from the Republican Party, pointing to issues including immigration and the environment...

(232 posts)Perhaps even negative value, because when we think words are worth something, and behave as if they are worth something, and it causes us to delay or never to actually do something concrete, remediation never occurs. That's why we've wound up with people like Jeff Flake and Susan Collins.
Actions are infinitely more valuable than words, furrowed brows or miscellaneous milque-toasty utterrances of concern.

(1,442 posts)I don't recall that has-been every not voting in favor of passing any high profile bill that Trump wanted to be passed. So, are we supposed to now believe that he's, somehow, managed to grow a spine?

(54,436 posts)Instead, like Susan Collins, he voiced his "concern," and then voted with Trump almost every time when he had the chance in the Senate.
If there is anyone who thinks that Flake would vote differently today on ANY major issue or nomination than he did when he had the chance while he was a Senator, I can only say that I admire your optimism, and please say hi to the Tooth Fairy for me when you see her tonight.

(38,445 posts)If he gets support from some, he might do that. And if Flake does run, based on the last sentence,
"a second Trump term could turn younger voters away from the Republican Party, pointing to issues including immigration and the environment...
The election is over, and Biden wins. Some a few moderates, will peal away from Trump and support Flake, and insure Biden's win. I am totally in favor of Flake doing that. We must win, and perhaps that is Flake's way of helping to destroy Trump.
Flake knows that Trump is destroying the Republican Party, as well as this country. If Flake runs, I will send him money.
