The hits keep coming- A couple we had dinner with for 7 nights on our cruise last year. Wife died

They were from the RI area. They were just delightful and we had tons of fun with them. We became true friends. We went to islands with them, we partied with them and after the cruise we wrote often.

We just got an email from the Husband tonight. He said well-no cruise this year huh...then went on to tell us he was sorry he hadn't emailed sooner but a few weeks ago his wife had emergency surgery for a tumor and then got Covid went on a respirator and never came off. She died last week. He never got to see her. They were very close

He then thanked us for being the best friends they could have ever made on their last cruise ever.

If she's cremated, he could bring some of her ashes to spread on the ocean... if he has a mind to... I'm getting way ahead of things, I know, but it may be something he would like (since it was something he and his wife enjoyed together, and with you too).

And I understand why you can't stop crying. That is one of the most heart-wrenching aspects of the coronavirus: not being allowed to be with your loved one at his or her final moments on this Earth. You have my deepest sympathy!

I'm so sorry for you, for the husband and for his family also.

The cruelty, though unintended, of dying alone in isolation is difficult for me to imagine. It just seems so extreme and inhumane. More like a punishment to patient and family alike. I know it's not, but...

Again, I'm so sorry for your loss and the pain you're feeling.

I struggle daily with the knowledge of how many of our loved ones are dying alone with no goodbyes. It’s horrendous. I am so very sorry for your loss, dem. I send you hugs across the miles.

This just keeps hitting closer and closer to home. It's like a bombing campaign and you never know who is going to be hit next. It's just so sad. My condolences to you and your friends.

A bunch of guys I knew passed away close together. Mostly older construction
guys like me. In fact, I'm older than them. Another passed last week. I'm of an
age when this is to be expected I guess. Still, it hit me hard, missing friends and
contemplating my own demise. But I realized that I am alive and I will enjoy and
celebrate my days. Not depressed any more.
Peace.

Kicked her out after a couple of days to rest at home because the surgeon said it was to dangerous to stay in the hospital. Let that sink in for a moment.

I knew him since we were 5 years old, 50 years ago.

So, when some right-wing asshole/conspiracy theorist nut claims this is just like a normal flu season. Or the government is quarantining us to control us. Or calling for social distancing so the government can better identify us with facial recognition and track us. Feel free to punch him in the nuts. Just tell them I sent you.
