Hope the link works.

There's still no excuse for that.

but here it is in front of us. We are living my strange obsession and I don't like it.
I'm an optimist at heart, but where are we going???
Fail Safe has got to be near the top of that list. The original cold war era film, not the later one. The book is even better, I couldn't out it down when I read it as a teenager back in the day. It's a suspenseful thriller that takes place in a wartime command bunker with American planes about to launch a nuclear attack on Moscow, but it's a mistake due to an electrical malfunction.
Seven Days in May is another cold war era movie with a lot of top actors. The military is plotting a coup against the president because he's trying to negotiate an non nuke treaty with the Soviets.
And I can't end without a shout out to, Dr. Strangelove!

(10,419 posts)I remember sitting at the dining room table with my parents discussing Fail Safe. They were in shock that the president sacrificed the First Lady (Jackie) to save the world.
As for Seven Days in May, I wonder what it is going to take for the military to say "enough", although in the film/book the president was benevolent. Kirk Douglas/Good...Burt Lancaster/Bad. I don't know. I'm just a simple movie fan.
