Why don't we just do away with a free press and get all our news from Donald Trump?

The White House abruptly canceled Monday's daily media briefing on the coronavirus pandemic after President Donald Trump railed against "enemy" journalists and officials signaled a new public relations strategy.

He has also been incensed the last few days by unflattering newspaper reports about his work habits and use of the sometimes two-hour briefings to praise himself, while battering rivals.

On Monday, he kept up an anti-media tweet storm begun over the weekend, writing: "FAKE NEWS, THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!"

"There has never been, in the history of our Country, a more vicious or hostile Lamestream Media than there is right now, even in the midst of a National Emergency, the Invisible Enemy!" Trump also wrote.

Vicious? Hostile? The enemy of the people? In the history of our country?

That is demonstrable on his part. That's not conjecture. He only needs to say, "I am".

Come on Donny, fess up. You know what you really are. We know that dictators discredit the media and even come to suppression and repression and that's getting rather old and obvious now for more people. In other words, it won't work so why try?

It's a pandemic and a crisis. It's not an invisible enemy, so don't get your wartime President gears revved up unless you plan to start a real war. The virus is not making strategic plans to overtake our country and you can actually see one with an electron microscope, so stop being melodramatic for your own sake again. Without enough tests or supplies, you are culpable in making this worse and protracted and so are those who enable and follow you.

Instead, not that you would express empathy or compassion, we have many of our people who are suffering and dying. That's where the focus should be.
