(25,862 posts)At the end of last year I decided to put a small notebook in my car and record when I got gas, how much it cost, how much I pumped.
I don't drive very much when I'm in town, but in the past I'd go on long driving trips at least three or four times a year. Figured it would be interesting to see what the numbers were. So far I got gas on January 19, February 19, and April 15. Although part of that long spread between February and April was that I was gone March 1-18 on a cruise to Hawaii. But by the time I got back home to New Mexico, stay at home orders were in effect.
I will add that my car is a Honda Fit and has a fairly small gas tank. While it gets very good mileage, I've had to adjust my fill-up stops on the long trips that I take.

(31,261 posts)I paid $1.40. $20 filled up my tank, for a midsize sedan. As I was driving, I saw that the station down the highway was asking $1.79 per gallon. Sounds like the place that you went to either failed to update their pumps, or are taking advantage of people. I should not have paid much less than you, unless you live in California or Oregon, where gas is higher priced. One other possibility is the station that I went to has high gas turnover and was reflecting the current cost to it.

(3,642 posts)I flirted with the idea of stopping in just to top off the tank, but I didn't think it was worth it to get out of the car or touch that handle.

(9,952 posts)I do not have to get out of car. I am not allowed to fill. I find that coming in handy the last two months.
