FOR THE LAST GODDAMNED TIME, MICHIGAN FOUGHT FOR THE UNION IN THE CIVIL WAR. IT IS NOT PART OF "OUR HISTORY." HIS ANCESTORS PROBABLY FOUGHT AGAINST THAT FUCKING FLAG. He lives in Monroe County. Figures. (Sorry for yelling)

Michigan senator apologizes for wearing Confederate flag face mask
Dale Zorn initially defended his actions, saying it was part of our history, but eventually apologized after widespread outrage
A Republican politician in Michigan has apologized after wearing a face mask that appeared to depict the Confederate flag, an image offensive to many Americans as a symbol of racism and slavery.
Michigan state Senator Dale Zorn wore the mask during a Senate vote at the Michigan state capitol in Lansing on Friday. He initially defended his actions, saying his wife had made the mask and that it depicted the flag of Tennessee or Kentucky.
I told my wife it probably will raise some eyebrows, but it was not a Confederate flag, Zorn told Lansing TV station WLNS on Friday.
He went on to add: Even if it was a Confederate flag, you know, we should be talking about teaching our national history in schools and thats part of our national history and its something we cant just throw away because it is part of our history.
When Zorn was asked what the meaning of the Confederate flag is, he replied the Confederacy.

(115,747 posts)Whatever. Even if he didn't, how could anybody possibly be so clueless as failing to realize that the Confederate flag has connotations that are highly offensive to a lot of people (duh, slavery), and that maybe you want to keep your flag at home on the wall of your man-cave along with your guns and your talking fish and your velvet Elvis so at least you aren't advertising to the whole world that you're a clueless racist douche?

(34,407 posts)Their tone deafness is stunning. We weren't even close to fighting for the South. And as much as douchenozzles like this clown wanted to turn Michigan into Michissippi, they failed. They need to get over it.

(34,407 posts)I got put in Twitter jail for 12 hours on Thursday night for telling some out-of-state jerk who was bragging that he'd just crossed the Michigan state line to join the protests and to make a scene at Governor Whitmer's house (ffs) to GTFO of Michigan. He reported me so I guess I hurt his widdle feewings.
Well, I'm still chuckling about the protesters hired by GOP that showed up with Confederate flags. Apparently, no one told them MI is in the north, OR that the North WON.
I have literally seen t-shirts in the bassackwards south that state the south won the Civil War. 😳🤯
Talkn bout slow on the uptake!

(22,143 posts)and to go back to school for new history lessons. This state legislator and his wife have spit on Michigan's history during the Civil War. A true shame, since so many gave their lives defending the US and the constitution, and then you got this POS and his wife here. How ignorant can one get?
I know he apologized, but still, a representative of the state doing this idiotic act?!

(34,407 posts)the bipartisan commission has to be formed, then they start redistricting. It sounds like a lot to do in time for the 2022 congressional races, so they think it'll be 2024. We may get lucky, though, and it could be sooner.
