I'm nervous for Georgia.

I've got family down there. North Ga. My aunt is a nurse. I'm afraid they've jumped the gun. (and we know why) Maybe these measures they're taking will help, but we'll have to wait and see. I just don't know if the masks will be enough when you're doing a manicure, tattoo, or haircut. The manicure especially. Plus with such a large percentage of people testing positive being asymptomatic. That is the part that scares me. I think older people should try and stay away and play it by ear.

None of them have had haircuts in 2 months, but none of them are sick, either (yet).

...well, they’re just getting started, seems to me

I think a great majority (not that I know anything!!) will stay home, and the people who get tattoos will probably be in a huge minority, eh - I guess some people REALLY need work on their hairdos, so - ? How many Georgians are ready to die to, you know, look good?

And yes, this “asymptomatic” business is just INSANE!!! — this temperature-taking is - well, it’s better than nothing, I guess, but I’m afraid in many (asymptomatic) cases, it reveals nothing to interested health workers, really

I sure hope your aunt can just HANG TOUGH, peeps (and you, too!) - also, there are doctors, nurses and other MARVELOUS healthcare heros who are available to show up at hot spots and kick some corona ass!!! - surely your aunt will meet a few if it gets really overwhelming at her hospita?!!

Stay safe/be well, peeps!

I live in Georgia. Our blue city is under an emergency order and we have sheltered in place on March 19.

We are the blue regional center for a surrounding multi-county red area. We have two major hospitals. Most surrounding counties have NO hospitals. They all come here if they are seriously ill or injured.

Our public schools started spring break on March 5 and they never went back. They are online schooling at this time. UGA was on spring break too. UGA is teaching all online classes now. Most of the 35,000 UGA students went back to their homes in other cities and states.

Our Democratic mayor has been awesome! He was on CNN earlier this week.He urged us to all shelter in place and not to reopen businesses.

Brian Kemp is from this town. Most people here, in this blue university town, think he’s insane.

There is no way we’re going to get ourselves and others sick or dead.

Fuck Kemp.

We were way ahead of everyone else. We are smart, progressive, creative and resourceful. Our local government is amazing. They are using this crisis to rethink and reshape our local government and our community to make us more resilient.

Here’s an April 21 article about our mayor. It includes a link to his CNN appearance.

Mayor Girtz Urges Athens Residents to Stay Home
By Blake Aued@BlakeAued | April 21, 2020 1:02pm

Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz is urging local residents to keep sheltering in place and businesses to stay closed despite Gov. Brian Kemp saying that some businesses can begin to reopen later this week.

Girtz appeared on CNN this morning to discuss Kemp partially lifting his statewide shelter-in-place order.

"I'm exhorting everybody in this community to continue sheltering in place. Do not reopen," he said. "It's like telling your quarterback, 'We don't have a helmet for you, we don't have pads, but just get out on the field and try not to get sacked.'"

<snip>

"If somebody's not alive, they're not going to be able to be a customer," he said.

Used to visit a site in Augusta. And my company had a site near Atlanta. So, I'd visit both and preferred to drive the rental car from AtL to Augusta and back. Would go through Athens and stop for dinner before finishing the drive to my hotel in suburban Atl.
Always seemed like a well run, clean city. At least from my limited exposure.

It is very quiet here. Even more so than when the university, private colleges and local schools are on summer break. It’s weird, but we’re doing the best we can.

Be safe!

Daughter and family there. One granddaughter is a nurse and a grandson is recovering from a very serious accident. Hard not to rush there and try to help somehow.

I have a close relative who lives there too. The good news is that he is keeping abreast of the situation and I have to tell you, he's talking like a Democrat. He KNOWS why Kemp is doing this.

Idiot Republican governors are waking people up. And not in a good way for Republicans.
