The more I think about his "I was being sarcastic" excuse...

the more it pisses me off. Here he is, commander in chief, using undetectable sarcasm during a pandemic press briefing. He could have been truthful and explained he had just read something and was still processing it, and jumped the gun. Fer fucks sake. This is exactly what I expected from him, but I remember the famous "he'll pivot and be presidential". Or "he'll get the best people". (heard that one a lot) All born out of the idea that he was a good businessman. Even if he did stumble on some of these best people, he doesn't take their advice or good council anyway. They all have to grovel, and can't tell him the truth for fear of reprisal. He has no damn business *NONE* using sarcasm with any fucking one. He should be humble in the face of 50,000 completely unnecessary lost souls. That filthy fuck. How dare he.

because this particular blurt from his idiotic piehole caused a really big wave, and instead of, for once in his miserable life, being humble and admitting his error in judgment, he lies. So he digs himself a bigger hole. There is talk of him stopping these daily pandemic briefings, but I'll believe it when I don't see them. He's jonesing for a rally. It's red meat to his base when he treats the "lamestream media" like crap. He really isn't doing these to inform the American people. Remember when he stood right smack dab in the middle of the illustration one of the professionals had on a board? He also hovers around them probably to intimidate them into not saying anything he doesn't like. So we're all in hell, but these assholes deserve it. This is pretty much how I expected this to go when he was elected.

entire disaster. IF he had been doing his job, he would have paid attention when the warnings came in. I blame the fat bastard for the sick, hungry, dying, jobless mess. The gop will NEVER be leaders. Now they are all busy covering up for him, as though everything is normal. It is not. He certainly jumped right onto seizing the PPE supplies that governors are ordering from overseas. Jared and his frat boy friends are taking those supplies to warehouses. They will sell them overseas, just watch. Twitler has said leaders of other countries are calling, begging for supplies. Jared will re-route them for other countries, while THIS country is in need. Despicable, vile people. Truly a corrupt family of crooks.

Sarcasm - even in its most lowbrow forms - is still too nuanced and complex a concept for him. People may say he says things sarcastically, but that requires some sort of sense of humor. What he does is mock and say things mockingly. He has no sense of humor - his concept is always attacking people, either verbally or assaulting like with his famous locker-room talk on the bus.

He can't be truthful. He has this need to always seem like the expert RIGHT NOW, which is why he spouts off like he does. Even when actual experts are presenting good information, he has to try and show he's at their level and will blurt out bullshit about hydroxychloroquine and now disinfectants. Later on when he's called on it, he deflects it, says he was misunderstood, blames others, etc. Hopefully this sticks to him.

has been viewed around the planet.

The world watched the president of the United States sincerely speculating about what struck his disordered, and absolutely astonishingly clueless, mind as various potentially valuable ideas, looking repeatedly to the DHS guy for agreement.

The blowback was so huge and immediate that the press conference was ended after 21 minutes. He walked off the stage skipping entirely the 1-1/2 hours of happy time lying and bullying the press that he apparently lives for these days.

NO ONE saw him asking sarcastic questions of journalists. Hundreds of millions probably saw followup news clips of him desperately (but probably still cluelessly) trying to claim he did. And the world knows that for a pathetic lie.

"Were those people so butt hurt over a smart black man that they had to retaliate this way?"

People identify with the President as they do no other political figure, for the President embodies the nation, and to the degree a person draws emotional sustenance by feeling themselves a part of the nation, they necessarily see themselves reflected in the person of the President.

It seems on the evidence that a substantial portion of the white populace, particularly the rural white populace, cannot see themselves reflected in a black man, and particularly in a black man of clearly greater intellectual attainment than themselves. In their recoil from the necessity of doing so, if they are to continue drawing what emotional sustenance they do from identifying themselves with the nation the President embodies, they turned to a perfect embodiment of everything about themselves they knew to be opposite to Mr. Obama --- a moronic blowhard, a man without taste or manners, a coward and a confirmed liar, whose opinion of his own worth is elevated so far above the actual as to assume legendary proportions. Whose sole qualification for the office is that he is a white man in whom these creatures may see themselves not just reflected but magnified, the very worst of themselves made flesh, beneath a hairspray crown.

There's a gag they ran for some time in the old Happy Days series, where Fonzie was caught out so solidly in a mistake that he had to admit he was wrong, but when he tried to say it it came out "I was wrooooh, I was wraaaaah..." because he just couldn't make himself say it. Trump has the same problem, except he's also not as cool as Fonzie.

When they’re caught, the first thing they try is “I was just kidding.”

He’s cornered right now. And there’s no good way out.

He was seen to be a fool. Twice. First for saying it. Then for telling an obvious lie to try to get out of it.

He’s going to spend this weekend on the next big lie, which will be getting some medical expert to fall on his sword and say he’s the one who told Trump about the bleach injections.

But I think he finally realizes that the entire world knows he’s a fool. And it’s killing him. And I’m happy about that.
