Ok, so another story of an anti-socialist republican accepting a government handout.

I spoke to my sister today, whom I love and get along with even though she and her husband are pretty hardcore republicans. We manage to avoid talking politics, except when one of them has had a little too much to drink and can't quite help themselves. I don't engage because I am usually outnumbered (by them, my parents and their friends) so I excuse myself and retreat to my room. I have another brother who is liberal, but we only see him about once or twice a year, and another one who is center right, but we only see him about two or three times a year. Usually I am with them on my own because they are the closest geographically.

Her husband has his own dental practice and has had to close up for the last month or so, but has applied for government assistance via the bailout plan which just came in yesterday. In his favor, he has a staff to pay and has not let anybody go and plans to keep them on until this is over. Basically, he is a nice guy except for the fact that he is a republican. I so wanted to say to her "So, I guess you guys hate socialism until YOU need it!" They have four kids and I don't want them to go under. She still has her job as a medical supply sales person and is wfh, but I kept my mouth shut.

I am just amazed at the hypocrisy when they are so willing to take when they have fallen upon hard times, but can't stand to see other people catch a break - minorities, immigrants, "lazy" liberals - the typical Fox news bullshit. It's ok when they are hurting, but god forbid anyone else should get a leg up.

Their hypocrisy is breathtaking. Of course, they”deserve it” because they are “hard working”, “responsible “, and make “the right life choices,” unlike immigrants, minorities, and poor people who are “always looking for a handout.”

It pretty much makes me sick. It would be one thing if they would have some compassion for others, but they don't.
