Wow, between Monday and today-what a difference!

Two family members and an old high school friend taken by "The Vid". Only one was in a high risk group-in his late 60's. The other two in their mid 50's and in decent health. Took them all right down inside of a week. Just had a conversation with my cousin about how long his sister's body will be held in a refrigerated trailer before she can be cremated. Tell me again about protesting to "open up the state". I don't think I'm going to answer my phone for a couple of days.

Just an addition-Realistically, living in the NY Metropolitan Area it had to be inevitable that somebody in my family or that I knew would be dying. I had a couple of friends and co-workers who were sick and recovered. I figured that would be my brush with Covid. Then two people I know on Monday and one more today-they were all just overwhelmed by this disease. I've been worried about my parents who are older, but they're just fine. Now my mom's like the Grim Reaper-I don't want to take her calls!

No one should have to go through this, but sadly, you are not alone and god forbid, many of us may experience losing someone close to us. Please take care!

It's just numbers and news stories until it's somebody you know. And we all just think we're going to skate through this unscathed.

Part of my quarantine routine is to make especially sure that my house is spic n' span clean, in case I come down with it. I think it would happen real quick. I don't want to be judged, you know?

Take care of yourself. Do stuff to reduce stress. I'm real sorry for your losses. This really sucks.

I just read this post by dixiegrrrl- https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213330192 This is a real thing. My cousin was, to my knowledge, asymptomatic. She complained about being a little tired. My aunt found her passed out at the kitchen table. She had pneumonia and didn't know it. They took her to the hospital. She never woke up again. She tested positive for Covid-although she died within hours of the test results coming back. This is NOT the flu.

Just two days in a row having her call to tell me who died. That was more of a joke meant for her. Don't be afraid and stay safe. Keep talking to your kids and whatever else it takes to get through this.

This is such a scary thing to be going through. I don't understand how some people aren't taking it seriously. By the time this is all over, not one of us will be unscathed.

My condolences on the loss of your friend and family members.

If you don't, you'll find yourself kicking yourself coast to coast and back again for the rest of your life if this stinker takes hers.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to who's getting sickest. We also don't know how long immunity (which is what allows recovery) is going to last, or if secondary cases will be worse or lighter than primary cases (my guess is the latter). We don't know if this is going to blow through and then disappear the way the waves of "sweating sickness" did in England, or whether it will be a yearly killer like the flu.

Are YOU doing okay?

Yes, I'm OK. It was just really crazy to go from abstract to real pretty much overnight. I was unsure if I should even post this, but when I was watching the nitwits protesting this afternoon right after my mom called (again!) it was half venting (because I'm sitting here with nobody else to talk to) and half wanting to say "hey morons! just because nobody you know has died doesn't mean it's not real!" But thanks for thoughts.

Why are we here? To make this world a more hospitable, just, and equitable place.

That's my goal, anyway. I will fight, for all of our lives, as long as I live.
