I have always enjoyed my monthly mani/pedi. It was always my little treat to myself. I won't be going near one for the foreseeable future. Brian Kemp seems to think its possible to social distance while getting your hair or nails done?

(5,129 posts)Kemp has said for them to wear masks and gloves "when appropriate". When seeing my healthcare provider, he or she will probably not be standing over me or touching me for an hour without PPE. I'm also able to do telemed with my provider if I am not going in for a full physical or anything that does not need for him/her to touch me.

(1,207 posts)When I see my doc we are alone in the room. When I get my hair cut there can be 10 or 2 people in the same room and in a chair next to me. I also presume that a clinic has more safety built in than a supercuts.
Not sure which equivalency we are using on this one?

(7,947 posts)It's like Kemp decided to choose the businesses that require the most personal contact.
Bowling alleys! Tattoo parlors!
He's really going for the "essential" businesses.

(82,849 posts)Notice how doctors and lawyers offices didn't make the list of essential businesses in Georgia? Banks didn't either. Almost as if Gov. Kemp was trying to winnow the voting population again, like he did when he trimmed the voter rolls so favorably for his election last year.

(5,129 posts)No disrespect to hairstylists, barbers and nail techs. But these are not essential businesses. It is a shame that big businesses were allowed to gobble up the money for small businesses. These are the types of businesses that should have been first in line so they can stay closed until we stem the tide. He also has not set out any rules about how this should be done.
Like someone else mentioned in this thread, limiting the # of customers allowed, sanitizing everything after each customer. No set rules at all.
You may be on to something about him wanting to purge voters.

(32,118 posts)Just to touch base with her. She thought that in Ohio they wont be opening up hair salons until June or July, for the exact reasons you mentioned. She said even then, they will probably require all stylists and customers to wear masks or else no service. For the life of me, I dont understand how you can cut someones hair and practice social distancing at the same time, either. AND having a hair cut isnt worth the risk of getting the virus!

(12,265 posts)When I get a color it takes 3 hours (I get highlights). I have always colored because my husband is 12 years younger and I am a little sensitive but I am more than prepared to see what I look like with gray hair. It will be silver according to my hairdresser, so I may like it who knows. Not worth dying that is for sure. I sent my hairdresser some money last week, I feel for her.

For fun, put up a plexiglass shield for the manicure. Welder's mask for the haircut.
Just after the ban went into effect in one city, the mayor there had her hair trimmed. She said as justification that she took her personal grooming very seriously. If she could do it, the response went, why can't everybody else? It was a minor scandal, but quieted down since the agitprop would have been against somebody we're pro. And she had lots of defenders, since the only reason people could see for objecting was race, sexual orientation, gender, and partisanship. Not the fact that she ordered hair salons/barbershops closed then turned around and did what she forbad others' doing.

(11,773 posts)to follow social distancing guidelines. I guess they hope for the best, but prepare for the worst? I fear for the people who are high risk and who are trying to protect themselves and others... Having your governor undermine and completely undercut all your efforts must be disheartening and frightening.

(7,575 posts)I am beginning to look like Beethoven's sister. It doesn't matter since I'm not going anywhere. But I cannot reach my feet to do even a nail cut - - which I'll need in a few weeks.
I went for my eye treatments yesterday to retinal physician. All the staff and the doctor in the office had on masks, and they allowed only one person in waiting room at a time. After checking in, we went back to car. I was wearing a mask; I only saw four other patients in my visit there over an hour's time; two of those were wearing masks, two weren't. We're in a closed down suburban county with only 14 cases of Covid.
RobinA
(9,898 posts)that masks do much, so I will be dying my own hair until I can go to the salon without a mask. Plus. I don't want my hair cut with a mask on. And you certainly can't have your hair dyed with a mask on. I hope there will be some salons left when we can take the masks off.

Conditional reopenings. Can open, must have masks, gloves, limit the # of customers at one time, sanitize between each customer...
The governors in even the strictest states understand that people are getting itchy and total absence of amenities is multiplying stress. I think they'll come up with a plan to step into this logically, as safely as they can.

(14,496 posts)Seriously, I can't see how this can be done without high risk to the employees. There will be an extreme surge of business for a while, which will make it worse.
Let's remember these employees would be doing these tasks for at least 8 or 10 hours a day, which makes their odds of being exposed very high and it also makes their chances of becoming careless high as well from fatigue.
