What the anti-stay-at-home protests are really about

What the anti-stay-at-home protests are really about

They’re part of a Trumpian strategy from some conservative groups to reshape public opinion.

The displays are tapping into Trump’s main message on the coronavirus pandemic: governors are to blame for the crisis, not him. As the president ratchets up his reelection efforts, his argument is an effort to simultaneously put the brunt of responsibility for the coronavirus catastrophe on the shoulders of his political opponents while also maintaining that he holds “total authority” over the pandemic and the states facing it.

It’s an argument that resonates best in rural, redder parts of the country, which have not been hit as hard by the pandemic as blue, urban areas. Trump himself has said, “We’ll be opening some states much sooner than others,” despite pushback from legislators and business leaders alike about the current lack of mass testing.

And it’s a message of division, designed to pit Republican-voting areas of states against their Democratic-voting neighbors, even rural Republicans against urban Republicans. All this to activate white rural voters who supported Trump in 2016 and whom he’ll need again in 2020.

For some on the right, the plan seems simple: vilify Democratic governors and agitate for the end of shutdown orders. Then, “reopen the economy” and spur a massive turnaround in the nation’s economic prospects just in time for Trump to be reelected in November. If the pandemic recedes, he can claim he was entirely responsible; but if people continue to die, he can place the blame on Democratic governors.

He is literally telling them to die for him and they are to fucking stupid to get it.

As one protesters sign said:

Give me Liberty or Give Me Death.

My thoughts? They are at liberty to die for their stupidity. Sadly they will take some of us with them.

It seems that once they show up where they plan to protest, they have proven already that they are NOT, in fact, being forced to stay home. If they can leave home to go protest, their reason for protesting is null and void, because there they are, proving they are full of shit in the first place.

Tempting fate with their Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Corona signs shows that they already have the liberty they are claiming not to have. Maybe their wishes will come true, twofold. If they want Corona, let them get them some, but don't waste hospital space, resources, or time. They need to go pray it away.

when he had to admit he did not have total authoritarian say-so, he had to be made right. Turning public opinion against the governors who do have the authority is how he wants to do it. He cannot be made wrong on anything, even if it kills people.

I wish Anonymous was still active and would ID them all. That way employers and everyone else in the world could shun them for the rest of their lives. Anyone who would block hospitals and ambulances from saving lives deserves at least that. Shun them for life and remind them what kind of pieces of shit they are. Show them actual consequences for their actions. Bring them to their knees and make them pay somehow.

The cops certainly aren't doing anything to stop them from that. The cops need to answer for why they are allowing this shit. If it was peaceful Democratic protestors holding non intrusive protests WITH a permit somewhere away from hospitals or ambulances, they would have any and every military grade weapon, vehicle, and other gear out there, tear gassing, beating, and attacking everyone, like they always fucking do. That's cops for ya, though. The Invisible Empire known as cops are showing their true colors right now, the racist fuckers.
