(25,645 posts)every day. Trump was given the benefit of the doubt but Democrats never are, especially Hillary Clinton (and she still isn't).

(15,373 posts)The way that she was treated in 2016 showed just how full of misogyny in both sexes that the USA really is.
The way that Elizabeth Warren (and other women candidates) were treated in the Dem Primaries in 2020 and the way in which Hillary is STILL treated today by some calling themselves "progressive" have only confirmed that for me.
Remember how many - even here on DU - hated and dissed Nancy Pelosi until she so masterfully managed the impeachment process?
Women are ALWAYS held to a MUCH higher standard than men - especially white men.
Even the tiniest perceived slip can do women in, most often when they are the best options by far. Yet the sky's the limit for men. It's not just Trump who gets away with a lot.
Until there is a sea change in this very real misogyny, there will always be excuses from those misogynists who refuse to recognize that trait in themselves for why the US will NEVER have a woman President.
I do not know how many times that I have seen or heard this particular excuse: "I would be happy to vote for a woman - just not THIS woman," even when the woman in question is head and shoulders above any of the male candidates in qualifications for the job.
