Andrew Cuomo Appreciation Thread

Reporter: It appears the president is also watching this press conference. He tweeted 13 minutes ago. 'Governor Cuomo should spend more time doing and less time complaining. Get out there and get the job done. Stop talking! We built you thousands of hospital beds that you didn't need or use, gave large numbers of Ventilators that you should have had, and helped you with testing that you should be doing.' It goes on a little bit more. So wondering if you could respond to that and also the question about the overwhelmed ICUs.

Cuomo: Good. Let's respond to the President. First of all, if he's sitting home watching TV, maybe he should get up and go to work, right.

what about you?

I mean all I basically said was Trump had to be removed but somehow the mainstream seemed to be against even me having that thought. I guess I did speculate about treason but I honestly said it was speculation. Can't we give a little because of the extreme circumstances I mean really?????

“ "Were we foolish for relying on your projections, Mr. President?" Cuomo asked. And as to Trump's comments New York had not been grateful, the governor retorted "what am I supposed to do, send a bouquet of flowers?"

"The only thing he's doing, let's be honest, 'well it's up to the states' to reopen. By the way it was always up to the states, what are you going to grant me what the Constitution gave me before you were born, it's called the 10th Amendment," Cuomo said.”

Change Gov Cuomo's name with Captain Trumps and those sentences would make more sense.

. . .have never really been huge fans of Andrew Cuomo.

But in this case, in this crisis, they now watch every time Cuomo gives a presser. And their opinions of him have changed for the better.

Thank you, Governor, for all you do. We're with you all the way.

during his 2018 run.

He pushed through a very liberal agenda in his second term, in spite of a Republican state senate:

- $15/hr minimum wage
- gold standard family leave legislation
- tuition-free state university and community college
- a gender pay parity law
- the codification of Roe v Wade into state statutory law

We were on track to get legalized pot this session when COVID-19 hit us so hard, so that's been back-burnered.

When our unemployment claims system crashed because it was not set up to handle a sudden onslaught of millions of new claims, Cuomo's administration addressed and fixed the problem relatively quickly.

Andrew Cuomo pledged that if re-elected in 2018, he would not run for higher office. The man is as good as his word.

He's an effective executive with a liberal agenda who has earned the trust of New Yorkers both through his actions and through his honesty. We are lucky to have him.

...to the job he got better and better and now is one of the top 5, if not THE top governor in the country.

I think part of my feelings and those of some other is that they were expecting to see Mario Cuomo, and when that didn't happen people were disillusioned. But no one could be Mario!

As you point out, he's already accomplished a lot of what some on the national stage have been talking about for a long time. Actions speak louder than words.

Are there term limits in New York for Governor?

It will be interesting to see if he does run again, and if he is willing to make the same pledge not to run for national office during his term.

He's not insecure about her expertise. During his daily press briefings, he often turns the floor over to her, defering to her command of the details and minutia in coordinating the pandemic efforts for 19,000,000+ New Yorkers, whether they live in one of the world's greatest cities, in towns and suburbs, or in our vast rural areas.

In 2018, we also elected Kathy Hokul as our lieutenant governor and Tish James as our attorney general.

Neither Andrew Cuomo nor New York voters are wary of talented, accomplished, proactive women holding powerful roles in government. We know and we've proven that women can win and lead.

The difference between him and his predecessor is like night and day. His daily pressers are intelligent, to the point, and just like Cuomo he has experts who answer more specific questions.

KY is so lucky to have him. He took action immediately when the surrounding states were brushing it off., and he is standing firm on opening back up.
