(10,130 posts)My daughter's father-in-law as of February 2020 - weeks ago.
They won't let her visit him. They were close.
He's a really, really nice man.
They figure he'll pass today - alone. He's been going downhill for a week.
She's going out for frequent solitary walks so her husband won't see her crying.
She's inconsolable.
My wife is crying because she can't go hug her daughter.
I just talked to my daughter on the phone.
We can't do anything. Hard to accept as a father.
Takes your breath away.

(10,500 posts)My SIL's grandmother died at the age of 100. Fortunately, she had a wonderful 100th birthday party a month earlier, with all her friends and family.
At her funeral it was only my SIL and her younger sister who could attend their grandmother's funeral. The woman's daughter couldn't go to her own mother's funeral because she and her husband are both at high risk, especially him since he has a pre-existing heart condition. They are completely sheltered in.
I believe they watched it on zoom. And the funeral and burial were held together, right at the grave site.

(10,130 posts)She didn't tell us until today. They kept it quiet for a week.
Father-in-law had extensive preexisting conditions including COPD, kidney & liver issues.
We haven't spoken with her husband yet.
He was out with his brother and sister trying to figure out arrangements and see his father.
The hospital relented to allow immediate family - his wife and children to visit.
The wife and his sister got in for five minutes.
Just before he and his brother were to go in for their five minutes, the hospital announced a change in policy and denied them.
How they could do that after telling him they could see him leaves me with notrhing good to say for that cruelty.

(3,266 posts)My friend's mom and my heart is breaking for her. The nurse called her just in time to tell her that her mom was deteriorating, and put her phone down on her mom's chest so she could talk to her as she passed. My grief is so huge, and I think I'm channeling my grief for this whole awful situation into my friends mom's death. I kinda can't quit crying today.
I'm sorry for your loss.
