I have direct deposit each month from SS. Obviously they have my banking information.
Is there anything else I need to do or is it automatic?
I have checked several sites and get different information.
I assume--hopefully--- that there is nothing I need to do. Am I wrong?
If so, where do I go to enter information?
Too many places and too much information for this old timer to absorb.
Thanks for any advice.

(65,076 posts)I read it the way you describe. The lower the income, the sooner one would get it.
My wife & I are in a position that we only got $900 out of $2,400 because of high income.
But, we got it yesterday.
I figured we'd be waiting until June or July based on priority. That appears to have gone by the wayside.

(10,168 posts)My husband and I got $2400 deposited on Tuesday in our Credit Union acct. Boom! It was not our usual SS check day.
Edit to add: We have not paid our 2019 taxes yet either.

(8,718 posts)I m on SS and did not pay taxes in the last 2 years. I hear we are supposed to get it within 10 days. Those who pad taxes were first supposedly.

(9,020 posts)You wont get a check. I think the limit is 90k for an individual, or 150k for a couple. If you only receive SSA you should get a check. But if your income from other sources exceed the limits, I don't think you would get one.

I'm giving it to whoever is opposing Susan Collins. I'm not from Maine but that POS must go.

(65,076 posts)$75k for single, $150k for married, filing jointly. But,...
Single filers still get something (gradually declining) if income was $99k or less.
Married, filing jointly get progressively less as income goes up from $150k to $198k.
We got $900 out of $2,400 because we were well over the $150k, but less than the max.

(9,020 posts)I'd forgotten that kink, whereby they don't cut you off after $150k, just gradually reduce it.
Congrats for the nice income; sorry about the smaller check.

(65,076 posts)Not sure what we'll do. Maybe food pantry for a big chunk of it.
We're both retired so it's a fixed income, but a nice one.
A nice side benefit of developing a couple things that made the company tens of millions.

(9,020 posts)they are trying to feed a skyrocketing number of people.
We are also in a rather comfortable spot ourselves, having retired about 3 years ago. This stimulus check will replace the Ford and NY Mortgage dividends which have been suspended, and I am waiting on pins and needles to see how many other entities will suspend or cancel their dividends.
I say we are in a rather comfortable position, but if a lot of the companies we are invested in quit their dividends, we will be in serious trouble.

(65,076 posts)I'm guessing the town might be organizing one.
I need a new garage door opener, but that's only 40%.
The rest we might buy canned food and have it delivered.

I don't want to sign up for all digital banking which they push to check balances online.

(24,396 posts)If you owed money in 2018 and 2019, the IRS probably doesnt have the info for your bank acct. you will be sent a check.
The IRS will use info on file with SS AFTER they have done the above, which means your money will be coming LATER if the IRS needs to use your SS info to send the $.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)have reported that they also got their stimulus deposit on the same day. I expect to see mine next Wednesday, which is the fourth Wednesday of the month, same time I get my SS deposits. People who get their SS on the first or second Wednesdays will probably see their stimulus money on those days next month.
I think they're doing it that way because the SS is already set up to distribute funds on those days and has all of the bank deposit information on everyone who gets SS money.
I'm not worried about this. Probably nobody on SS should worry. They've already got us on the schedule, and the system is in place to do it efficiently.

(13,058 posts)I think that some people are pretty desperate to get that money so they are impatient. People in less serious situations can just sit back and wait.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Unfortunately, the federal government is not giving out adequate information about those payments. The web page on the IRS site appears to be working only sometimes, and is not always accurate.
So, I've been reading all of the threads about this and am posting what I am inferring from what people are saying about the payments they are receiving. My goal is to provide information if I have it.
I need those funds myself, but recognize that I will have to be patient and wait a few days to see if they arrive as expected. If not, then I'll try to find out why.
customerserviceguy
(25,183 posts)and there was no added stimulus money, only the regular amount of my Social Security. I would imagine that SS recipients would be getting theirs after the Treasury has figured out who they already paid from tax return data. It wouldn't surprise me if that would take a month.
Thanks for the reassuring words, I'm not worried, but a lot of folks are, and you've always been a voice of reason here!
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)They may still be winging it in some cases. I don't know. I also don't know of any way to find out, really. If mine does not show up next week, I'll use the IRS site to check.

(13,058 posts)recipients who didn't make enough to have to file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 may be running a few days behind. However, if you are a SS recipient who has dependent children living with you then you need to file a simple tax return to get the $500 for each child payment that you are eligible for.
Both my husband and I are on SS retirees. Anyway, when we file tax information with our tax guy I always have a
voided check I give him so if there id a refund (which lucky this year there was) which has he routing numbers on
it for dirt deposit. My social security is also direct deposit. We got our check in my checking account last week. Sat there
for a good 5 days at "pending"but it came through the other day.
Because both are birthdays are later in the month we don't get our SS checks until the 4th Wednesday of the month, but
this check came through about the 12th.
Good luck
customerserviceguy
(25,183 posts)of successful direct deposits of payments from IRS records against the list of Social Security recipients with direct deposit, and I would imagine that would happen after all of the former were sent out. Then, they can eliminate possible duplicate payments.
That's fine with me, my income is not affected by this crisis, the way that it has for many (formerly) working people.

(4,552 posts)And just received our $2400 stimulus into the same account where our refund will go.
Refund has not arrived yet though.
We are both on SS but 2019 was the last year that I actually worked a job.
Not sure what will happen starting with 2020 filing.
I am thinking we should keep filing even if we dont owe. This way they will always have an updated account to place any refunds in! Lol!

(12,392 posts)Im retired but I sub at the high school so I do have a very small income and I got a tax refund last month in my checking account.

(10,885 posts)I receive SS by Direct Deposit, and filed both 2018 and 2019 taxes. Had to pay in 2018, and had no payment/no refund for 2019. I file via TurboTax, and no bank routing info is on my return as I do not receive refunds to be deposited.
I tried the tracking on irs.gov, and the form insisted I needed to declare receiving a refund or making a payment, and then it asks for the dollar amount. Checked off "Made a payment" and entered "0" for the amount. Got an error message. Tried a second time using the "Got a refund" option, again entering "0". There was no option for "None of the above." It didn't work either way. After trying several times, I just get "Service is not available at this time."
Frustrating. Glad I'm not desperate for the money.
