Retail sales saw their biggest drop on record in March as the coronavirus pandemic forced closures across restaurants, bars and many stores.
March retail sales dropped 8.7% vs. February and 6.2% year-over-year.
The largest monthly drop in retail sales every recorded was 4.3% in November of 2008 during the global financial crisis.
Last month sales at clothing and clothing accessory stores plummeted 50.5% compared to February and dropped 52% year-over-year, according to the National Retail Federation.
Sales at sporting goods stores fell 24.4% year-over-year, while grocery stores saw a surge in demand, with sales rising 25.7% year-over-year.

(61 posts)This guy I call 'UPS guy' was on edge, because for the 2 1/2 hours he has to work every three days a week, he has to carry wrapped up carpets. I guess most of the people working for UPS are getting pretty upset about people ordering that stuff online, because it's getting to be too much? I don't think they understand people have nothing better to do than work on their house I suppose. Not sure if they should be worried about COVID-19 contaminating them.
But I would not doubt sales went way up at lowes/home depot or even menards, honestly. My mom calls me everyday thinking about things she might possibly order from their stores to start fixing her house up.

No prediction of them going back up either for a long time
