Billionaire Trump Donor, Personal Friend Dies Of COVID

Billionaire Trump Donor, Personal Friend Dies Of COVID
April 12, 2020 Coronavirus, Donald Trump

Politico reports:

A friend and donor to President Donald Trump who the president had said was in a coma and seriously ill after becoming infected with the coronavirus has died. Stanley I. Chera’s death Saturday was reported by The Real Deal, which covers the New York real estate industry. The publication cited unidentified sources who have worked with Crown Acquisitions, the firm Chera founded and ran. Chera was in his late 70s.

Trump had spoken at recent White House briefings about a friend who had fallen ill with the virus, which has killed more than 20,600 Americans as of midday Sunday, according to Johns Hopkins University. “I had a friend who went to a hospital the other day. He’s a little older, and he’s heavy, but he’s tough person,” Trump said. “And he went to the hospital, and a day later, he’s in a coma, he’s not doing well.”

Chera had a reported net worth of $4 billion.

I've been reading (OK, "listening", because audio books are easier when I spend most of my time driving) a lot of the books to come out on his Trumpness, and one theme seems to ring out through all of them;

He doesn't have any "real friends" at all.

Not one.

Certainly not in any traditional sense of the word that you and I or any sane person would recognize. All of the long time hangers on have only done so because they are just as large pieces of shit as he is. Witness Stone, Cohen, Epstein et al.

His entire perspective on life is transactional. Everything for him is a competition, and most sane people don't look at personal interaction that way. If you don't give him something, he won't like you. At all. Unless you impress him on a scale or in a sleeve that he envies and could never attain, like Putin or Duterte or Erdoğan, for example.

He could have been a good person. He could have been a good corporate citizen. He could have been a major philanthropist.

He could have suffered. He could have been in unbearable pain. He could have died alone, and lonely.

All I feel is negativity. A sick kind of happiness.

So, now we see - this disease can kill the rich and the poor.

I hope Chera had many parties and shook many hands.

I have no heart.

This reminds me of watching Mark Zuckerberg losing his only friend Eduardo by screwing him over in The Social Network, except I felt a little bit of sympathy for Zuckerberg and I feel no sympathy for Trump. Way to go, Trump. You killed John Prine. You have killed over 25,000 other Americans and counting. And now you have killed your friend. That is, if he was ever really your friend, as someone else pointed out.

Chera's Crown Acquisitions inked a deal in 2008 with now-Trump son-in-law and White House senior adviser Jared Kushner's firm The Kushner Companies and private equity firm The Carlyle Group. Crown Acquisitions and Carlyle Group took a stake in the retail portion of the building at 666 Fifth Avenue in New York City, which was owned by Kushner Companies. The Fifth Avenue skyscraper ended up being a troubled property that weighed down The Kushner Companies' portfolio for years until the building sold to Brookfield Properties in 2018.
Chera introduced Trump at the New York City Veteran's Day Parade last November, calling the president "my dear friend."
Trump called out Chera at a 2019 rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, describing him as "one of the biggest builders and real estate people in the world."
"And he's a great guy and he's been with me from the beginning," Trump said of Chera.
