A HERETIC I AM
(24,370 posts)I will never forget the first time I remember flying overseas, and looking through the in-flight magazine to find that map in the very back.
TWA, JFK to ROME, 1965.
I should say that wasn't the first time I flew, it was just the first time I remembered. My dad was stationed in Saipan in 60' & 61, and if I think back, my very first memories are on that Island, but for the life of me I can not remember the journey home.
Old airline memorabilia is something I find fascinating as well.

(24,370 posts)Yup. Lots of old names. Ever seen a "PBA" DC-3? These guys used to come down to Miami and operate these aircraft during the winter, when their traffic from Boston out to the cape dropped off.
Lots of old airlines I remember, like Piedmont, Air Florida...hell, the list goes on and on.

(13,776 posts)Agent told traveler to call TWA because they flew right and left. Braniff only flew up and down.

(24,370 posts)Interesting side note on Braniff: Are you aware that for a very short time, Braniff operated the Concorde for a domestic flight leg? Interesting story;

(Note: As the article indicates, it was never repainted as the rendering above suggests. They just used US Based crews to fly from Dulles to Dallas.
