A couple questions about the stimulus payments

1. If someone is on Social Security and gets it through direct deposit, are the payments coming by Wednesday or sometime in the coming weeks? I have heard both.

2. If I recently submitted a simple tax return (did mine with the free1040taxreturn.com site) with direct deposit information, am I ok or should I still go to the portal that the IRS set up?

Thanks.

1. You are oki in terms of the direct deposit, and you will get the money as soon as possible

as they will not be able to send it to everyone in just one day. The first batch went out Friday.

The U.S. Treasury has transferred the first batch of personal stimulus payments to banks late Friday afternoon, according to data from mobile banking service Current.

“We just saw a bunch of the first wave, lots of $1,200 deposits,” said Stuart Sopp, chief executive of the New York startup.

The tax site I listed above said the IRS has accepted my return. So guess no need to go to the portal. Could have skipped that tax return step if I knew, however.

are old, outdated, and incorrect that get posted here, there, and everywhere.

The IRS is the agency tasked with the task of getting the stimulus deposits/checks out. Their information is at:

everything else out there is at best, second hand.

9. My understanding is that those with the lowest incomes will get the money first.

I will need to remember to post on here when I get my deposit.

I don't have a lot of income, but I do file every year, so I'm a decent test case.

10. Aren't you from New MEXICO? Consider yourself lucky to get any deposit/check/whatever at all

And even if the Trump appointees managing this know that New MEXICO is a U.S. state, they might know that it's a BLUE state, at least as far as recent presidential elections. And with a DIVERSE MULTICULTURAL (i.e. not a "real American" ) population.

I have not myself had a personal experience of someone thinking I'm in Mexico, the country, not New Mexico the state, but I would not be very tolerant or easy going about that if it happened to me.

back at ya!

‘We lost New Mexico to Mexico’: Internet breaks into hysterics over Trump wanting to build border wall on Colorado", Raw Story, October 23, 2019

The president of the United States indicated he accidentally forgot where the state of Colorado was during his speech to an energy conference of fracking companies Wednesday.

Trump told the audience he was building a “wall” in Colorado, which is the state just north of New Mexico. If Trump was referring to his U.S.-Mexico border wall, it’s the southern New Mexico border on which he intends to build the wall.

so one never knows for sure

Hopefully they use the correct map for the stimulus payments.

The state magazine has a back page column that goes by "One of Our Fifty is Missing" in which people relate tales of how other people think that New Mexico is Mexico.

The stories are both amusing and frustrating. I have never run into that myself, but I would not be very nice to someone who hasn't a clue that this is one of our fifty.

14. From what I've read

If a person is in situation #1, the direct deposits to the bank accounts used for Social Security will go out "in the near future." Yes, vague as hell, but I would imagine that they have to use the list of SS recipients and compare with the list of people who have already gotten a direct deposit because of filing a tax return with banking information on it.

As for situation #2, it may take some time for a very recently filed return's banking information to get into the database. I would presume that you'd get your payment by Memorial Day. I know, that's a bit pessimistic, but when you're dealing with something that really has never been done before, it's wise to use caution in estimating a timeline.
