And report to work on his say so. Red county school district. They’re considering bringing students back on May 4th. Graduations are scheduled to begin June 4th and as of now, have not been cancelled.

Asked by a reporter at his administration’s daily briefing on the coronavirus pandemic what metrics he would use to determine when to reopen the economy, Trump pointed to his head. “The metrics right here,” he said. “That’s my metrics. That’s all I can do.”

I'll give it at least a month after, for example, my governor (Walz(D,MN)) gives the all clear, and even then only when the death rate is very low, before I go to busy restaurants (I don't go to bars, but if I did, I'd give it a long long wait before going to one), or to theaters.

I've read way too many horror stories about Cov-19 patients on ventilators (note to people who have been on ventilators for other issues, and it wasn't such an ordeal: for a lot of Cov-19 patients they have to put it on the highest settings, and for a lot longer). And I'm in an at-risk group.

Even very well-meaning and medically well-advised and informed governors have to balance the impact of (hopefully) a few additional cov-19 deaths vs. having the economy remaining shut down for months and months (poverty kills too).

I don't have that consideration. I have only one goal for myself: stay alive and off of ventilators. And if I don't get infected, I won't be infecting others.

Of course, as far as when Trump says everything is OK, that would be totally useless non-information to me. Well, or it would tell me to expect a second wave of infections to begin shortly.

But when my State starts to open up (Indiana), I won’t be staying at home.

I will continue to use social distancing, and wash my hands, but I won’t be afraid to get out in public either.

Merkel has sway here. Trump does not.

Plus, "business as usual" for me means weekly workdays in France, Belgium, and Holland, and once a month in Spain and Switzerland. Trump has no say over those countries opening their borders, either.

If Trump were to tell the leaders of Europe, "no more business as usual for the next week," they would probably mean he has decided to make no idiotic statements for the next seven days. Knowing Trump as they do, they would most likely assume he has come down with a severe case of laryngitis.

think trump is going to give all clear until it’s time. He was going to reopen last week of March, but put it off to Easter. Then, it was May. And he’ll do it again. I’m fine with wanting to “reopen,” but only when it’s safe.

I like what Biden said, something like — “Look, I’d like to reopen tomorrow if it makes sense . . . . . .”

I have a workplace that is pretty safe-- a locked lab that no one but me and my partner have entered since before Christmas, in a building on lock down since early March when campus closed (zero cases previously). I'm currently on the list of "essential faculty" so I could return to work now if I wanted to, and it's probably at least as safe as staying home, but I don't really need to yet. I did have to move my office last week so I was on campus and it's a bit eerie, all dark hallways, empty parking lots, and silent solitude.

I still wouldn't stop social distancing, however. In fact, the only reason I might return to work is because I'm just as isolated there as I am at home.

We'll still limit our contact with other people by shopping only for necessities when needed. No gatherings, no going out to eat, not even food delivery.

I don't want people being harmed economically but I also have no desire to test my family against Covid 19.

Masks, social distancing, disinfecting, and additional handwashing will continue to be the order of the day.

I've upped my donations and will happily buy food for others (or whatever they need that I can do).

Still not inviting them home to supper though.

Well, unless it's an absolute emergency and they need a place to stay. I'd waiver and cave. I always do.

I'm an idiot. Overlook me.
