"For now we see through a glass, darkly..."

“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” - 1 Corinthians 13:12
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The glass has been cleaned this week and all can now see clearly. I woke up early this morning reflecting on this last week and the daily press briefings from the White House. For anyone who watched the briefings, which often lasted well over an hour and on Good Friday well over two, it has become clear that our President is ill.

Regardless of your political leanings we all must face the truth of what we are witnessing. Many of us have witness this in our own families. The decline of a loved one, the sometimes-slow realization that something is wrong. A mother, a father, aunt or uncle that we love, that we have known all our lives, begins to decline.

Once the realization is accepted, we can look back and see that the signs were there sometime ago, but it was easy to disregard them as ‘one off’s’, or a bad day that all of us may have experienced ourselves. But finally, it becomes clear, the glass is now clean and we see. Our loved one is experiencing dementia.

Dementia is a rather harsh word and there is the medical definition and there is the common vernacular use of the word. I use the word with some trepidation, but none the less that is what it is. People are different and the individual signs may differ, however there is a commonality.

What America witnessed over this last week was a President who could not focus, who day after day repeated the same rehearsed themes and strayed off topic repeatedly. A President who could not answer even simple, direct questions from the press. Certain words were cues that triggered almost identical ramblings.

For instance, if the word China was in a question, regardless of what was asked, we would hear of his trade deal, his great relationship with Xi, the billions of dollars we were taking in on tariff, etc. He was not answering the question but rather he went to his mental flash cards, took out the China card, and off he went. This is but one illustration.

We are in a crisis that is deadly, is economically debilitating, and is an existential threat to our country. We now have a President that is unable to do even the basic duties of the office. This is not a drill.

In great times of peril our country, our citizens, our elected representatives must take action. We have done this before in the history of our nation and we must now act. President Trump must be removed from office. This is not a political screed; this is the survival of our nation and our lives.

Some will say this is just political hyperbole, a partisan rant, but it is the truth. We all saw it last week. It is time we put away our childish partisanship and take action.

God help us if we don’t.

But it doesn’t absolve him of guilt. He may not be responsible if he’s got a brain issue, but he is still guilty of the crimes he commits.

So, if he’s sick, there are other guilty & responsible people behind the scene directing Trump’s behavior. And none of them have, as they say, an “altered mental status”.

Imagine someone who has assumed the role of elder family leader (patriarch, matriarch, your choice). This person has has always been looked up to by people s/he favored but not so much by people on the bad list. Money and power play a big role. The Elder has always played favorites and tried to turn people in the family against each other.

Over time, the elder deteriorates, but the people in favor refuse to acknowledge it. If they do, the family situation changes, not in a good way for them. Anyone who tries to broach the subject is immediately attacked as a hater.

I can't believe you let your kids ride in the car with her/him!

You're just hate her/him because you didn't get a car for your birthday.

So, the people trying to do the rational thing are frozen out. They pray that the story doesn't end with the elder driving into the river with a car full of grandchildren but they can see it coming.

The only ways he is gone are death, he quits (not likely), voted out in nov. (?).

Of course we can always hope for alien abduction, the rapture, a tear in the space-time continuum sucking him into another dimension.

As reprehensible as some powerbrokers may be, I believe they don't want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. The only other explanation I can think of is that they're rolling the dice on exterminating 90% or more of us, but I'm betting they don't have the intestinal fortitude for the combat that would result.

The behavior on display now consists of lies, gaslighting, demagoguery, personal attacks, astounding ignorance, and the self adulation of malignant narcissism.

We've seen all that from the very beginning of his presidential run. Only the circumstances have changed. Trump may still be able to con his rabid followers into believing anything he spews, but he can't gaslight a virus or the spread of a pandemic.

What we see in the press briefings does of course raise alarms among better informed people with a grasp of facts and science, but it's the same old Trump reality TV show. Only the theme, the setting, and some of the supporting cast have changed. And it really is quite successful -- have you seen the ratings??

Reality TV is an insipid form of entertainment and relatively harmless -- until the star of the show crosses over into the real world with real responsibilities and power to affect the lives of real human beings and the future of our republic.

Until the central character is removed from the show and replaced by a more sane individual with feet planted in the real world, the lethal madness will continue. The question is whether there are enough viewers not infected by reality TV dementia to vote him off the island in November.

The glass may have been cleaned this week for many of us. But I doubt the Christian Right will ever come “face-to-face” with reality. It seems ironic (or perhaps appropriate) that you invoked I Corinthians.

If I have not love, “I am become as sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.” Trump is the epitome of a clanging cymbal.

Even if I “could move mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.” He has no empathy whatsoever.

“…love … is kind; envies not; love vaunts not itself, is not puffed up, does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil; Rejoices not in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth;”

Trump is not kind. He is “puffed up”. He constantly behaves in unseemly ways. Only cares about himself. Has no use for truth and continuously lies. He is a child and has never “put away childish things”.

When will these so-called Christians come to grips with the fact that Trump is evil? Maybe they will come “face-to-face“ with this undeniable truth while they pack the pews tomorrow. Wow, just unbelievable.

Until then please, “abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love”.

Stay safe and VOTE this asshole out.
