Face Masks in Short Supply? Try These Face Coverings Instead
As coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country, government officials are now encouraging people to keep their faces covered at all times when theyre outside even if they dont have access to a face mask.
While hospitals continue to deal with a shortage of face masks, the CDC says many cloth face coverings could still be effective in helping to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.
The CDC says cloth coverings are most effective when they follow these five guidelines:
1. Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
2. Be secured with ties or ear loops
3. Include multiple layers of fabric
4. Allow for breathing without restriction
5. Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape
