IRS plan: 50 million Americans to receive first stimulus payout today

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The much-awaited stimulus payouts will begin flooding into millions of bank accounts starting today, according to an internal plan circulated by IRS Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

The first payout is estimated to cover at least 50 million Americans.

The first wave of payments will be issued to people who have already given their bank account information to the IRS and Social Security beneficiaries who filed a federal tax return with direct deposit information.

The next wave of money will be paid no later than the week of April 20. The third and final round is dedicated to payments being made through check. Those will be mailed at an undetermined date.

Groups of checks would be then mailed over the next several weeks. It could take until May or August for recipients to see the money.

it's in the Social Security Administration's database. There have been varying stories about whether they will use that information to send checks, resulting in mass confusion. In order to give the IRS one's bank info with a tax return, the taxpayer has to have a refund coming. The "simple return" is old, obsolete, news. The "web-based portal" promised by the IRS for posting direct deposit information is nowhere to be found. Elect a clown, expect a circus.

That seems rather callous. Since when are disadvantaged people necessarily whiners?

The government (especially IRS) knows every penny of mine and your PAST tax information.
Which is why I keep 7 years of my tax filing information on hand.
But the IRS has no clue what my future earnings or taxes will look like.
You would think with me filing taxes for 50+ years they would have modeled my finances.
Nope, the government has no clue what my earnings or taxes will be in the FUTURE.

And the government is notoriously wrong about FUTURE predictions.
Why are you or anyone surprised the government missed the size of covid-19 infection from Wuhan?
The government routinely misses cost projections of Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security etc.

Land of the MF45 ass-lickers. I'm frankly surprised I haven't seen it my account yet. But yeah, I'm guessing you'll have to wait. It's so shameful how this ass wipe plays favorites with the states. I mean, there are Trumpers in all the states, after all.

For people who desperately need this money, it has already taken too long. It's already dire. And those people might have to wait as long as August? It's all just so frustrating and sad. We'll be fine, but we have been in the position where we needed that money yesterday, last week, last month. My heart aches for everyone who is suffering because of this huge cluster-fuck.

88. I disagree. When I filed by mailing my return in , as we all used to it took 4-6 weeks.

And that is with a planned for and expected system. I file electronically now and got my return in less than 2 weeks this year.

As for those getting paper chicks.

And the people getting the latest checks are the highest earners eligible to receive them. The lowest earners will get then in the next few weeks. Then as you reported income increases your date to receive the check is later. Of course, most but the poorest or iconoclastic already file electronically so they will get them soon.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

https://www.ssa.gov/news/press/releases/2020/#4-2020-1

So, you get a SSA-1099..the IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

they won't actually show up in your account until next Tuesday or Wednesday as I understand it. I'm happy I used my bank info last year for my refund. This year I actually have to pay in so haven't submitted it yet but will before the 15th.

Then they have to spin through however many million taxpayers/SS recipients match the criteria.

Then the transaction has to be generated and transmitted through ACH.

Then the bank's own computers have to process it.

Considering the scale of what they're doing I'm willing to cut them a little slack on the timing.

The IRS' bank of TRS-80s are getting a workout starting today, that's for sure.

People need the money now, not later, and definitely not may """or""" August! You have foodbanks seeing multiple times their usual amount of traffic and we are only in week 3. What is this going to look like a month from now? How many people are going to end up using payday lenders or burning up credit cards that will never get paid??

SS recipients did not have to file due to the fact that they already know our direct deposit info?

I did receive my normal SS deposit, so it's not like they don't know.

Day One: Nothing.

When they figure out how to screw me outta my SS, that'll be gone, too. They won't have a problem finding me then.
