Governor DeSantis, idiot extraordinaire.

Won an election by theft as only the GOP can do.

Handles his first crisis, the Coronavirus that is killing tens of thousands by leaving the beaches open during spring break. Lied when he finally shut it down and said all those new pics were fake news.

Now we have this.

Hundreds line up in Florida to apply for unemployment benefits amid issues with state website

Issues with Florida’s online portal for unemployment applications forced hundreds of South Floridians to line up Tuesday for paper applications despite the health risk during the coronavirus pandemic.

In Hialeah, north of Miami, dozens of people lined up for help, with varying levels of adherence to social distancing protocols. Some wore facial coverings or kept at least six feet apart from one another, while others stood closer or wore no masks, a South Florida NBC affiliate reported.

The bulk of their voters are not who they govern for. The virus doesn’t favor one party over the other so to them it evens out.

The lack of a safety net may prove to be one of the biggest issues.

I’m talking about the overall concept. I’ll bet that the worry that some working class (poor) person might get an undeserved dollar plays a role in how this got bungled.

Here is the key part from the link:

"Republican lawmakers were squarely behind the the newly elected governor’s agenda in 2011, passing a sweeping unemployment compensation law designed to punish workers who lost their jobs — “slackers and malingerers” as one state senator put it at the time."

The system was specifically designed to punish workers who lost their jobs

The details kill me. Proof that you contacted five employers each week? If they didn’t waive that part will they have to line up again next week?

For others, the article is from yesterday and worth reading

She perfectly summarized the contempt some felt for the unemployed, which led to the overwhelming passage of a law that reduced the number of weeks someone can collect unemployment to as few as 12, required workers to prove they had contacted five potential employers each week, expanded the types of fireable offenses that disqualified an employee for benefits, and cut benefits if an employee received severance pay.

Workers also were forced to apply for benefits online, which was bad under the existing computer system and calamitous today under the one Scott’s administration replaced it with.

I had to replace my wife's computer, which crashed right around the time she lost her job, only to run up against the shitty website. Thank goodness we have a printer and did not have to stand in line for a paper application. Her application is on its way to Tallahassee priority mail and we have a tracking number. One fault I noted with the paper forms is they nowhere allow a claimant to indicate how they wish to be paid. Processing these paper forms will be phase two of the clusterfuck.

"clusterfuck".

More is the pity!!!

So good to hear there are rational, kind people helping out in the midst of the horror show of sadism on full display not only in Florida, but by 5 justices of the Supreme Court and the GOP in Wisconsin.

One assumes there are decent humans everywhere, but it still feels wonderful to have that assumption confirmed, especially now.

Unemployment was OK to file on line.Tried for three days to file for snap benefits.
Finally got through today was told he had to download form fill it out and mail it in
He does not have a printer.
Libraries are closed , no places are open so he can print form.
I did it and will have to mail it to him.
11 pages long.
I am outraged.

Not only did Trump do nothing to mitigate COVID, he did nothing for Americans that lost jobs.
I can help my son, what about families with little resources????

Because now their traditional voters are getting a taste of what small government ideology for 20 years looks like.

I’m furloughed as is the wife. But we are fine for at least 6 months as we saved tons of benefit time, have savings and could retire if it got too bad. Plus our company is paying our healthcare and copays with no requirement to pay it back. Most of my fellow coworkers who are also furloughed are not so lucky and really need the extra 600 a week which it seems like will be months away. Most are republicans. Not the crazy religious types but the ‘I’ve got mine’ type. The religious type don’t Last at my employer. But income does not equal wealth. And they are pissed. Like really pissed.

I’ve had 3 trump voter tell me in various ways they are not voting republican this year. Unsolicited as I don’t talk politics at work.

I’ve got to say this though. My boss, although a republican, who sat out last election because he couldn’t vote for either as a not insane republican called all of us working for him. Told us if we get in a bind he and his wife have resources and if we call he will be there to help. And he is speaking the truth. I won’t need the help. But some of my coworkers might. It renewed my hope we can leave this toxic era. But not surprised knowing him. He will be a Biden voter in November.

And the lines are the direct result of that cruelty.

The result is tragedy. It always did result in tragedy. The only difference is today that tragedy is impacting so many more because of this virus.

But, hey, I guess the infected can be so happy about "all that winning".

But we have to go thru the state system to access the Federal benefits of 600 extra a week combined with the measly $275 the state gives. Until the state process it the federal benefits don’t kick in. No retro either. Right now they are processing 5000 a day.

Do the math.

Florida is going to explode. Republicans are done here. It’s their system.

Make fun of millions if Floridans who are getting no paycheck and can’t get the help we need. Do you still have your job? Or are comfortably drawing a pension? Or on SS?

Try managing a bunch of immigrants who can’t vote, can’t get benefits and are thrown out of work. And you and your wife are getting furloughed next week.

The wife and I will find a way to manage. But I’m worried to hell about the people I manage.

You are a privileged dude. I would go further but I try to keep it civil. And don’t want a hide.

Sleep easy. Apparently you can.

But for new applicants, they have an entirely new site up and running. Good idea, except you normally migrate the old site over to the new one first. Not run two entirely different sites and I assume databases.

We may go from nobody getting paid to some getting double payments. Because if they link the new system to the old one that will just slow down the new one as well. If they don’t it’s still a mess. Perhaps the old site is down to migrate the data.
