I've only been voting by mail for 22 years but I think it's the only way to go.

I lived most of my life in Oregon which first required mail-in voting in 1998. A few years ago, I moved to the state of Washington which also had vote-by-mail. There are so many advantages to the system that it is still baffling to me that other states haven’t adopted it.

1. It’s easy. Voters don’t have to be at a designated polling place within a window of time. Weather is not an issue and clothing is optional.

2. It leads to more thoughtful voting. My wife and I sit down and go over the candidates and discuss sometimes complicated ballot measures while we vote. We use the voter’s pamphlet and research on line to better inform our choices.

3. It’s tamper proof. If you don’t trust the postal system, you can drop your ballots off at designated locations. There’s no possibility of hacked voting machines. There’s a bulletproof paper trail.

4. It’s fair to all. Regardless of employment, disabilities, distance or other impediments, everyone can vote and vote at their leisure or convenience. Voters can’t be intimidated by goons hanging around the polling places.

5. It's kind of fun. When I voted for Barack Obama in 2008, I let my two year old grandson fill in the box by Obama’s name. He wasn’t actually voting but he knew it was something important. Four years from now, he’ll be voting for real.

6. It threatens the GOP. It is probably the biggest threat to the party struggling to stay in power while representing a decreasing minority of special interests.

For years I voted every election by absentee ballot. My work is so unpredictable that suddenly, I could be out of my home state on Election Day.

It's easy and effective and I know that (eventually) my vote will be aureately tabulated... I think.

all the reasons Republican (and some Democratic) politicians don't like it - especially the thoughtful voting and fairness part.

That and the socialism thing which, when you don't call it socialism, a strong majority of Americans support.

Most Republican voter suppression tactics don’t work. If your ballot doesn’t arrive in the mail, you will know if you’re not on the voter rolls in time to do something about it. Once you’re registered, you don’t have to show photo I.D. every time you vote.

My wife lost most of her right hand in a auto accident. She practiced signing with her left hand before voting. She was thrilled when she saw that her ballot was accepted.

too many people vote, and there is too much thinking involved...
