Interesting discussion on MSNBC about Medicare For All

One person made the point that employer based healthcare is going to look really inappropriate when unemployment is between 20-50% as the banks are predicting.

Seems like the time for Medicare for All is now.

it's more entrapment for working folks. If your medins is based on your employer, it makes it harder to change employers. And nobody wants to quit and have a gap in their coverage. And quitting to start your own business? Takes a hearty soul to risk that.

Healthcare.gov

You can enroll in or change plans if you have certain life changes, or qualify for Medicaid or CHIP.

Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

A time outside the yearly Open Enrollment Period when you can sign up for health insurance. You qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you’ve had certain life events, including losing health coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child.

Depending on your Special Enrollment Period type, you may have 60 days before or 60 days following the event to enroll in a plan. If you miss your Special Enrollment Period window, you may have to wait until the next Open Enrollment Period to apply.

Losing your job (and therefore your prior coverage) is considered a qualifying life event. trump is pretending he has any say in this and he has none. It's a way of lying to people so they don't know that the ACA is there for them. It's despicable.

...to provide all Americans with health insurance, now is clearly the time.
When the recovery for the current economic disaster begins it would be an advantage for small and start-up businesses to be able to hire employees who already have health insurance. Business costs will be reduced and employees can get quicker medical care which helps reduce time lost from work.

insurance program. He is a Walton Family Slave and in that, the rules get butt ugly. Because of a per existing health issue, his Employer Health Insurance premiums are totally off the wall. Yes insurance is available, the Deductibles are ridiculous. And as well found out this week, because of a processing error,he now has to wait for the next Company enrollment period.

Checked with his State Sponsored Insurance Program will not let him join since he is employed by a Employer who has more than 500 employees.

So his trip to the ER is now a mega bill hanging over his head.

The way this Pandemic is playing out,we are on track for a single payer program sooner than latter. By the time most laid off Workers realize it,they would only qualify some POS COBRA program that takes sometimes months before you are covered.

all. It is not happening...how about some solutions that can save lives now. Trump won't open the ACA...get real. He is not going to sign a M4A bill which would not make it through Congress anyway.

What we have to do is bully him into some stopgap method until we take control and are able to add a public option and fix the ACA which will lead to universal healthcare...there is no other way that will work. And after Italy...I am even less inclined to want M4A. I can't imagine what would happen if Trump had complete control over every American's healthcare...God forbid.

No need for open enrollment for ACA if you are suddenly unemployed. No waiting period, you can apply. I did.

However, if I remember correctly there is an income cap.
