Heartless crooks steal $110 from 91 year old woman in Manhattan after offering to escort her home

https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/ny-two-men-steal-money-elderly-woman-manhattan-20200404-ccyutepkmjbddogphnj6hr7tfm-story.html

The elderly woman was crossing Sixth Ave. and W. Third St. as she made her way to a 7-Eleven about 4:20 a.m. on Mar. 2 when she lost her balance and fell, cops were told.

Two men who were nearby approached and helped her up, then offered to escort her back to her home for money.

The woman agreed, but said she could only spare $10, cops said.

As the three neared her home, one of the two suspects saw that the woman had $110 clutched in her hand and ripped it from her grasp.

She was probably desperately trying to avoid crowds while grocery shopping. femmedem Apr 2020 #7

And from the amount of money she had, I'd guess she was planning on buying a weeks' worth.

Poor woman. It sounds as if she doesn't have or doesn't remember how to use a debit card.

to be out by herself at that time?

I'm completely baffled by that lack of sense. Proof, I guess, that age does not necessarily confer wisdom.

I take it the 7-11 in question, despite the name, is a 24 hour store.

If the virus doesn't get her, lack of money and food will...I hope someone helps her.
