Do I have proof? NO.
Would YOU put this past Republicans? I would NOT. So...I'm channeling their evil voter-hating and USPS-hating minds here...
_____
1. USPS shuts down
2. Pandemic still going on in November
3. People can't vote absentee or by mail because no USPS - they can put themselves at health risk to vote though.
4. GOP 'wins' (another 4 years of kakistocracy)
BONUS 'win' for GOP: USPS (+ their postal worker union which Republicans hate) is no more.

(16,976 posts)I think, (someone let us know please) That IF no election is held, THEN Jan. 20th 2021, the speaker of the House will become ACTING president until election is held?

They have no intention of saving usps. They will simply let the b/k courts give it to a private firm which will cut routes, service, steal the pension fund, and screw workers.

(11,569 posts)Its doubtful Treasury will spring for FedEx delivery. Also, what happens to prescriptions and medical supplies that are delivered through the postal service? Even with their bitter hatred of unions, a Post Office closure would be a nightmare scenario in an election year for Republicans. They may posture but, ultimately, I think their self-interest will prevail.

(2,018 posts)I get it. Lots of people are nervous. Its easy to start thinking of bizarre, scary stories in that state. But stop. Passing those scary what ifs around doesnt help anyones state of mind, and a bit of basic reasoning squelches the stories easily.
Its not going to happen. Why? Because that would be more destructive to the US than anything weve seen so far, or expect might happen if the virus goes to Italy levels. The US lives on mail for basic correspondence. Yes, theres email. Tons of people dont use it. There are lots of things that dont work so well electronically as well. Yes, for packages and such we have lots of options. But not for basic mail. The US (not to mention huge amounts of business with the US internationally) would shut down without mail service.
Bottom line: big business, government, international orgs, the medical industry, etc. will not allow this to happen, even if the peoples voices arent heard.

(9,114 posts)It was that shithead li'l bush's fault that the USPS had to fund their pension for 75 years into the future. He did it while he was on his way out the door, at the end of his second term.
