Apparently 2% of the Population Dying IS Acceptable To Some

Here's a quote from an online conversation with a Trump humper upset about the affect business closures are having on the economy:

"We are born with immune systems and every model shows 98+% of the population will survive this virus...none of this adds up...and ruining the lives of 98% of the population to save 2% is absolutely insane. Please stand up to anyone that says otherwise. If we unite on this and start pushing back we will get this economy back on track sooner rather then later. Bleeding hearts will be the downfall of this country if we allow them to shame us into submission."

I have never wanted to reach through the screen and strangle someone more in my life (and that includes an abusive ex and a few sadistic bosses). 2% of the population is expendable. Who knew??

The more that healthcare facilities are overburdened, the higher the death rate. So that’s controllable with cooperation and focus.

The death rate was over 12% in Italy, last I checked.

That assumes EVERYONE gets it, and the case fatality rate is 2% ... which is higher than we're seeing so far.

2% of 375M is 7.5 million people dying FFS!

What an insane and/or heartless bastard (or Putin tool).

~20% of infected people require hospital care. If they can't get it because the overwhelmed health system has collapsed, then the death rate becomes astronomical.

With all 50 states participating in strict social distancing guidelines.

There are still ten? (or so...) states without any sort of Stay At Home orders.

There are also states that are exempting golf; church and beaches even under Stay At Home orders...

So I’d say that we’re kinda half-assing this thing.

2% might be optimistic.

1918 about 70% of the population was infected and 1% died.

Here our population is 3.2 times larger and the pathogen is more virulent. My guess more than 3%.

There was a heat map from those tracking thermometers on Twitter yesterday, the whole south is red. June will be a terrible month in Florida.

There's just no place to hide from the numbers, the incompetence, the lack of policy.

and point out to that idiot that it won't be 98% that will be 'ruined'. it will be about 300 people, as they are the ones who need this illusion to perpetuate in order for things to stay just like they are... unequal. The rest of us (minus the sychophants, who will also probably suffer some since they cannot remove their heads from the oligarchs butts) will adapt and hopefully create a better societal model. I ain't holding my breath, but this sure seems like a good time maybe hit the socio-economic reset button and aim for a society where people are the most important thing, not a green piece of paper.

that a death toll of millions is preferable to keeping the economy shut down. I saw one guy claiming that even if it took his whole family it would be worth it. Of course, these kinds of heroes are the first to fold when they get a runny nose, but if he is willing to sacrifice his life for Wall Street, let him exercise his freedom.

That is the power of right-wing Kool Aid.

The needs of tending to those with the virus will dominate the resources of our health care system past the breaking point, which impacts all other health care needs for people with other conditions. There will not be available treatment for things that are usually treatable. The mortality rate for all other conditions will significantly worsen.

This will result in far more than 2% of the population dying of treatable conditions we previously took for granted. I don't understand how this concept escapes them.

They applaud when children are permanently separated from their mothers at the border and forced to sleep on the floor with no soap or toothpaste.

It's no surprise at all that they feel that way. They'd probably feel the same if it were 20%.

But as heartless as they are, they are even more stupid. The U.S. economy would be profoundly wrecked by the deaths of 2% of the population. Letting this thing "run it's course" wouldn't save the economy, it would ruin it.
