(36,075 posts)He's not clever enough to just plan a pandemic and economic collapse that can only hurt him. He knows damn well he looks like a punk and a criminal.
All he's got are half-assed politicos around him. Maybe Big Fossil. Maybe Putin. Maybe the Kochs and Mercers. Maybe corporate PR people.
No statesmen, diplomats. But lots of dollars to crank out. Maybe some dollars even returning from tax havens. He thinks like mafia.
So if it's to turn this country corporate and fascist, I could see that, maybe.

(5,376 posts)They get to implement all of their horrible policies, and their hope is that Trump will get all of the blame. Clearly that is Mitch McConnell's plan.

(22,099 posts)And thought--he gets more insane every day. People are cheating when they vote by mail. Everyone should be required to have voter cards with their photos, and to vote in person. Even in the middle of a pandemic.
You have to wonder again, if he's setting up some kind of bogus election fraud claim for Nov.

(8,835 posts)He is foreshadowing the republicons reason to invalidate the election and declare himself President. He will claim Democrat election fraud for the reason and justification. Barr will back him up, as will the Republican Senate, then the Republican Supreme Court will rubber stamp it.
All these statements should serve as a harbinger of what is coming......

you but you can only cast 1 ballot. We have computers. Republicans are admitting that
they have been cheating on election day with their electronic voting machines.

(10,303 posts)... and they got caught. NC 9th District - in the 2018 election Republican operatives committed electoral fraud by collecting absentee ballots and if the ballot vote was for a Democrat the absentee ballot would not be mailed in.
As long as there aren't organized ballot collection efforts like this then mail in ballots can work nicely.

(38,187 posts)Do they write the answers on their hand or a crip sheet? Do they "phone a friend?" How the fuck can you cheat on a ballot, when you are voting? For fuck safe, I did not know New York could spawn someone dumber than the rest of the dumbest Republicans in NC, but Trump rivals some of these dumbasses.

(54,405 posts)From The Washington Post:
In an interview on Fox & Friends, Trump referenced proposals from Democrats in the coronavirus stimulus negotiations that would have vastly increased funding for absentee and vote-by-mail options. The final package included $400 million for the effort, which was far less than what Democrats had sought.
The things they had in there were crazy, Trump said. They had things levels of voting that, if you ever agreed to it, youd never have a Republican elected in this country again."

Which is, ironically enough, just about the most accurate statement he has made in his whole presidency.

It's the getting there in a plane and the nights in Boston upon arrival and prior to departure that concern us. Once we're there, in our semi-isolated house on Cape Cod Bay, we will be in relative safety.

I hope you are able to make it, but the way things seem to be going right now I honestly just don't see it.
Went out this afternoon to pick up scrips for my mom. Stunned at how packed stores are and how many people are taking no precautions. This is in North Dallas, suburb of which is just north of LBJ. We've been thanking God every day we have Clay Jenkins in charge in Dallas Co.
Stay well and safe. I know you are. Much love to you and yours, The 7wo7rees family

(54,405 posts)I have my own theory as to why we're still OK. I have thought for weeks that most everybody here in Central Europe has been exposed to the virus, including us. We have not been out much, so we figure we are probably asymptomatic, and since we have been close to self-quarantined for 3 weeks, our infectious period has probably passed.
Of course, we can't KNOW any of this because no one here can get tested unless you're famous, or at death's door. I saw that about Jenkins and Hobby Lobby. Here, it's not like we have truly evil people in charge, no TX Republicans, but incompetence and an unwillingness to admit that they are overwhelmed often produce pretty much the same effect.

(739 posts)I think there were ones to Providence from Germany briefly, but not anymore.
And if you do fly into Boston, perhaps hire a car service to take you directly to the Cape when you land.
DFW
(54,405 posts)Boston is pretty much it. Either, or. We need a car on the Cape, so we usually rent one at Logan and drive out. It's about 3 hours to get to our part of Truro.
Bangor used to be an airport of convenience for charters from Germany to the West Coast. They would land in Bangor, refuel, and have their passengers go through immigration and customs there. Then a new, U.S. based crew would get on and take the passengers on to the West Coast. About 40 years ago, there was one famous incident where one of those passengers was a very unworldly Bavarian, who wasn't paying attention to the announcements on the plane. The Germany-to-Bangor crew wished them a nice time in San Francisco. Not having paid attention to the rest of the announcements about the formalities on the ground and subsequent re-boarding, that's where he thought he was.
He didn't speak a word of English, so he got off the plane, went through immigration, collected his bag, went through customs--and right out the door! He caught a cab, used enough sign language to tell the driver he wanted a hotel. and spent three days wandering around Bangor, thinking he was in a suburb of San Francisco.
After three days, he decided he wanted to see downtown, with the Golden Gate Bridge, etc., so he got in another taxi, and said, "San Francisco." The driver tried to make him understand that he was not about to drive the guy 3000 miles to San Francisco, but he didn't understand a word, and kept asking to be taken to San Francisco.
The driver finally found a restaurant that served German food, and someone inside that understood some German. The cops were called, and finally someone located the rest of the charter group in San Francisco, who were indeed wondering how one of their passengers had vanished into thin air during the flight from Bangor to California three days before. The story caused such a sensation at the time, that the city of San Francisco sent him a ticket from Bangor to San Francisco, and he got a tour of the city by the mayor (presumably with a translator). After the trip was done, the guy decided he actually liked Bangor better (go figure), and for the trip home, they made him wear a big sign around his neck saying "not to be let out of the plane until arrival in Frankfurt am Main."

I'm sure many republicans would be more than willing to trade their right to vote to escape paying any local, state or federal taxes.
