Governor Asa Hutchinson says 'shelter at home' is too confusing for

[link:https://www.localmemphis.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/shelter-at-home-will-help-save-many-many-american-lives-so-why-isnt-arkansas-doing-it/522-cae2b8b7-0b95-4f65-b62a-6cce937b85de|

Would you not be insulted by this statement if you lived there? 😳🤯

When scientists came up with their estimates on how many people could die if we didn't flatten the curve, they based it on an expectation all 50 states would have shelter at home orders in place by now. But now those estimates will have to be changed, because Arkansas and a few other states have governors who don't think it's necessary. In the words of Governor Asa Hutchinson, 'shelter at home' is too confusing for Arkansans because of all the exceptions.

That's insulting. I think most folks can figure out what essential work activity is and isn't.

No Mid-South state was a trendsetter on this issue. Tennessee and Mississippi governors only issued their orders this week.

Please governor, those of us who live across the border from your state wish you'd listen to the experts.

Arkansas ranks 34th in the number of virus cases.

Death toll so far - 3

Am I defending Hutchinson? Absolutely not.
I am simply pointing out that the outrage expressed might be a little more satisfying if it was aimed at more deserving targets because let's face it. The outrage expressed does absolutely nothing to help the situation in Arkansas, which actually looks pretty good if one compares the above two statistics to your own state. I bet Arkansas will suddenly drop on the outrage scale comparatively.
Hutchison is still an idiot which is the definition of a Republican, but........

I was born, and spent most of my life in Arkansas. Other than Little Rock there are no large populated areas. Add to that a large number of farms, many of which I have visited,( mostly relatives) and most of these people could live 3 to 6 months without ever having to go to the grocery store, They grow their own food, and they are avid hunters, many of whom rely on this for a large portion of their sustenance. If I had to go with one thing, it would be your assessment which I think is the most logical.

think Hutchinson has done a pretty good job with the virus.
While he hasn't issued 'stay at home' order, he did close schools in early March, closed non-essential businesses, banned eat in dining and drinking, set aside $127 million in state funds, opened a few drive through testing sites in major population areas, etc.
And the county with the most cases had one church starting things off with like 38 cases out of 80 people attending a service.

Fox and talk radio are spinning around on message. Be careful but civil liberties- science?- gubment telling you what to do.

I heard Todd Starnes in local radio yesterday with his (dangerous) sarcastic the hospitals aren’t over run BS. I’ve read many accounts of golf course types and “I’ll survive it” and “it’s a CITY problem” etc.

Hutchinson and Kemp and DeSantis have to balance the obvious with telling the rightwingers to suddenly listen to science, give up civil liberties , and not be rugged individuals. Oh and daring to possibly be seen as defying the cult leader.

All of a sudden, science matters in a life & death way and this fact of life these days is antithetical to their talking points used to rally their base.

As for their repuke base, if/when they realize science matters, it could cause the someday fret over the fact that msybe the world isn't flat.

I was and remain insulted on behalf of the good people of his state who he has insulted with this statement.

Map Reveals Hidden U.S. Hotspots of Coronavirus Infection
By adjusting for population, researchers have identified rural areas in several states that could be disproportionally affected by COVID-19

(Snip)
The data reveal some surprising patterns in infection rates at the county level after adjusting for population size. For example, many county clusters—such as those around Albany, Ga., Detroit, Nashville, Tenn., and parts of Mississippi and Arkansas—had relatively large numbers of cases per capita.
