...incense, for example. There are two head shops in town where I buy all my incense. I don't know anywhere else in town to buy it. Those head shops are non-essential, which means they're not open now, which means I can't get any more incense. I've been allowing myself to burn one stick -- only one! -- per day. I'm down to about a dozen sticks now.
I'm rationing lots of other stuff -- bottles of tea, cat food, kitty litter ... I swear it seems those cats are urinating and defecating more now than they were before. Of course, I can replenish my supplies of most of that other stuff at the grocery store, but I am trying to minimize the trips to the grocery store because I don't know how safe those trips are. And I'm sure I won't be able to get any more incense at all.
I'm also eating stuff I haven't eaten in years. Especially stuff that uses bread, because when I go to the grocery store and get a couple loaves of bread, I want to eat it all up before it gets stale. So I've been eating lots of cheese toast, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, banana sandwiches, that kind of stuff.

(130,974 posts)better than stale, and it's always ready for sandwiches.
SO, I have 3 bread stashes: FRESH, sits on table for a few days, Most to fridge, and smaller amount to freezer for toast.

(2,334 posts)and blend them with 2 Large diced White Onions in a ziplock then freeze. I use this as a start to marinara or spanish rice. If you let them defrost you get mush. The trick is to toss them straight in to hot oil, that way they hold their texture. There will be some spitting but 10 seconds with a lid on is all it needs.

(57,073 posts)I love onions & just ccan't keep fresh ones. Bought two bags of them today. I'll be slicing & dicing tomorrow. TY again!

(2,334 posts)When you pull the frozen bag from the freezer and they're all stuck together don't despair. A small whack with a rolling pin or the like and they will come apart easy squeezy so you can grab a hand full. Bon appetite!

(38,187 posts)I have been ordering stuff online, then being careful with the boxes. I have been following the advice about how to handle the boxes. So far so good. It is only probably a tad bit safer, but it sure beats leaving the house when no one in my area is following the six foot rule or anything else. They are too busy standing around talking about how their prayer is keeping it away. My county hasn't had any cases yet. I emphasize the word, "yet."

(46,166 posts)Then we put them in exile for several days. No touching them until it's safe and maybe longer. It's been working so far. Like you say, it's better than going out and chancing exposure.

(2,191 posts)Although the Petco nearby has outside pickup. They don't carry the cheap food that is the only wet food my cats will eat (I ran out of it and got some good Petco food, which they won't even touch today, though I assume they will when they get hungry enough).
Chewy has good prices but is expecting 7-10 day delays.

(46,166 posts)One time he even sniffed the new food and shook his back leg as if to press the point of how much he hated the sight and smell of it.
So each day I picked it up and walked away. On the third day I put his bowl down and he ran to it and ate with lip smacking gusto.
I did feel badly but he needed to be on the special diet. So neither one of us had a choice. You brought back an old memory.

(51,308 posts)I was surprised the first time I found it in my local store.
Usually on a top shelf on the aisle with air fresheners, etc.
Jeebo
(2,025 posts)It's just a few blocks up the street from my house. Problem is, they sell it in packages of just one flavor, and it's a flavor I don't particularly like. The two head shops in town where I buy incense sell it in individual sticks, and they have lots of variety, so I can sniff each flavor and get just a few sticks each of the flavors I really like. Fizzy Pop is my favorite flavor.
However, as I said, those head shops are non-essential and therefore no longer open, so I guess the next time I go to Gerbes I'll get some of their incense. It's better than nothing and it'll be less of a hardship if I continue allowing myself only one stick per day.
