We don't regulate firearms ownership. In fact gun culture worships firearms as social and political revenge ("ballot box, soap box, ammo box", " water the tree of liberty...", etc)

We have right wing media pushing conspiracy theories and called a real pandemic a hoax. There are people who believe George Soros financed this virus in a secret lab in Wuhan....

We are going to see more of this, and I'm afraid fatalities

It's really easy to discount the killings that never happen.

I think I’m going to hope the virus ends anyway.

I’m gonna bet that people aren’t going to congregate so much right off the bat. It does make you wonder where all the shooters have gone, doesn’t it?

Maybe no fun for them when something can kill more people than they can.

OMAHA, Neb. —

The Douglas County sheriff provided details on a "significant arrest dealing with the current COVID-19 situation" Wednesday afternoon.

At a press conference, officials said the Douglas County sheriff recently learned that Dr. Adi Pour, director of the Douglas County Health Department, was receiving threatening emails and calls. The sender threatened to "lynch" her and "slice her throat."

Approximately 15 messages were sent and were focused on her actions as health director regarding COVID-19. The sender had tried to disguise the origin of the emails and created new email addresses each time one was blocked.

Investigators tracked the calls and emails to Ronald Penzkowski, 57. Upon executing a search warrant at his address Tuesday, more evidence was found to support that Penzkowski was sending the messages.

Penzkowski is charged with making terroristic threats and stalking.

Btw, that Nextdoor on-line site has been connecting neighbors with each other and enabling really good things in the neighborhoods that are signed up.

To my great surprise, an activist couple just arranged to incorporate our tiny rural FL road into a bigger neighborhood over by the river, and we just received a letter asking us to sign up. You bet! Did immediately. A high-crime area lies the other direction, and one of the purposes was to bring in more people to get better control of crime.

Nextdoor has also created a couple of new apps for signing up to help others and so on that are particularly appropriate for big emergencies like this.

operating as an increasingly russian-influenced talk radio monopoly

for 30 years they've been building an alternate reality making excuses for the hate, racism, and ignorance and thinking americans, especially dem and prog leaders in cities, have stupidly ignored it

there is a reason for the excess crazies now and the incredible level of disinformation that puts the white house even close to a putin/trump coup.

there's a reason why we can no longer have a national fact based discussion about anything without it getting derailed by bullshit and million who believe that bullshit just because it can be repeated over and over and over with no challenge.

free press org just filed a petition with the FCC for an investigation of the covid disinformation

grandchildren and a lynch pin of local charities may rant about the need to stop fascist-socialist ( ) Democrats from destroying he country and believe that we're going to have to nuke Iran, but she's still very different from this guy.

Back in the 1960s, btw, her sweet-faced sorts were ranting about how we were all going to be radioactive dust because our nuclear test ban treaties with Russia were betraying us to them. Democrats may have been second to Russia as the biggest enemy then, but we were still full of commies and a huge threat.

This latest is their worst, most corrupted (and actively treasonous!) iteration, I agree, but they've always been with us. It's always been our job to keep them and their extremist counterparts on the left from getting enough power to cause real trouble.

Take heart. The midterms and great turnout so far suggest those who let us all down have been shaken out of their complaisance. Most of Sanders' followers support him because he's running as a Democrat and they don't see him as something that needs to be stopped. They don't want to burn down our national barn and have always intended to elect Democrats and defeat Republicans.

it's the only real advantage they have, operating outside the free speech spectrum.

media and dem political advisors have completely ignored it, not even polling for the single most common denominator in trump support.

worse than that, it is the single easiest and biggest target for dems and progressives to go after and make a difference with.

with irreplaceable limbaugh about to croak and threatening a 30 year dynasty, with advances in artificial intelligence making stoprush times 100 simple and easy, it make absolutely no sense to keep ignoring talk radio. especially with 270 of those limbaugh stations depending on 87 universities to keep broadcasting sports on them to survive and with all the students gone the admins are going to be much less busy and more receptive aand worried about pissed off activists coming back to campus knowing their schools have been endorsing denial of COVID.

This guy may have any number of pre-existing conditions that would make him liable to do something like this. But the lack of leadership in our country right now (and I'm talking about leadership at the very top, as you all may have guessed) coupled with fear and ignorance, and a dedicated program of misinformation being peddled by evil people for their own purposes, makes this kind of behavior more likely. Those most predisposed to go terrorist are going to be the first ones, but a lot of other people are going to crack under the strain. While they may not go around threatening public health officials, they will act out in unpredictable and self-destructive ways.

The nation could use a boost in confidence that our country's leadership is in control and handling matters. Sadly, that's not in the cards with our current office holders.

An Asian family was stabbed in a Texas Walmart simply for being Asian.

Two boomers got into an argument at a gas station in PA because one was coughing and didn't cover his mouth so he pulled out a gun and fired shots at the guy's car as he was driving away.

we don't know for certain he's a MAGAt.

A lot of small business owners are going to be wiped out by this. Retail was already on the ropes, as were small, family owned motels, restaurants, and other businesses. There are going to be a lot of people out there with their livelihoods destroyed permanently and they're going to look for people to hit back at and it won't all follow strict party lines.

I have a certain amount of sympathy for guys like this, even though they're idiots. They already know from long experience that the Feds won't come through for small business, only for fat cats and big corporations.
