(269,157 posts)Perhaps if he didn't fire the CDC person in China, they would have known.
One more thing - why did they send tons of supplies to China if they didn't know it was a huge event?

<snip>
The United States government sent nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to Chinaincluding masks and respiratorsalmost three weeks after the first case of the coronavirus was reported in the state of Washington.
In a press release from the State Department dated Feb. 7, the agency announced it was prepared to spend up to $100 million to assist China as the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths continued to rise there. The day the press release went out, Trump tweeted that he spoke with Chinas President Xi Jinping and that China would be successful especially as the weather starts to warm & the virus hopefully becomes weaker and then gone.
At the time, sending supplies overseas may have seemed like the right thing to do. But its worth noting that this release of vital medical supplies came two days after several senators, including Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy, offered to allocate congressional emergency funding for preventative health measures and research to ward off the virus in the United Statesand President Donald Trump turned it down. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff, etc
tweeted Murphy, and they need it now.

Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren't taking this seriously enough.
Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.

(855 posts)which means that the intel community (to include IQ45) knew about it 1 or 2 months ago or longer. There is a lot more information that was scrubbed away before public release.
So Trump knew well before than he claims, as well as the extent of the outbreak.

I havent believed a word theyve said yet. Tell us when the equipment will be deployed. Everything else is a smoke screen.
That forbes article on millions of masks being shipped overseas should be a wake up call. Americans are dying because of their malevolent incompetence.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Several months before the coronavirus pandemic began, the Trump administration eliminated a key American public health position in Beijing intended to help detect disease outbreaks in China...
The American disease expert, a medical epidemiologist embedded in Chinas disease control agency, left her post in July, according to four sources with knowledge of the issue. The first cases of the new coronavirus may have emerged as early as November, and as cases exploded, the Trump administration in February chastised China for censoring information about the outbreak and keeping U.S. experts from entering the country to help.
It was heartbreaking to watch, said Bao-Ping Zhu, a Chinese American who served in that role, which was funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2007 and 2011. If someone had been there, public health officials and governments across the world could have moved much faster.

They can talk about China all they want, but the coronavirus blood is on their GOP hands.
