Tomorrow, I predict we will pass Italy ...

On Friday, we will pass China.

We're #1
We're #1

Do I need to place the sarcasm thingee?

And Pendejo45 said he's scores 10 out of 10 in the handling of Coronavirus.

Want to know what 10 out of 10 is?
Obama's handling of the Ebola virus.
Only 11 people got it in the US, and unfortunately 2 people died.
And the press was merciless to Obama.
https://thehill.com/news/administration/220922-president-obamas-ebola-problem

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/oct/19/ebola-america-fear-barack-obama-virus

Pendejo45 has handled the Coronavirus with 68,572 cases and 1,031 dead.
Where's the press?

That being said, we will end up with worst official numbers of any country on the planet. I don’t think we are even at 1% of the final numbers.

1,031 deaths out of 68,572 cases

We gained 15,000+ cases today.
Italy gained a little over 5,000 cases.

Projecting, we should have approximately 83,000+ by this time tomorrow,
while Italy will have approximately 79,900+

Unfortunately, Italy is experiencing a 10.01% death rate right now at over 7,500 deaths.

Not like I'm spreading the cheer.

They don't count the ones that died because they were unable to help due to the overwhelming of medical resources.

The numbers are much higher actually. It'll take a long to time to calculate the true loss of life.

around 96,000 dead.

I used a 1.4% death rate, what happened to Italy is their hospital system collapsed, likely causing their death rate to soar. If we follow Italy's pattern, we could be looking at close to 1 million dead, a number that I would have swore was not remotely possible here, even with a jackass like Trump in charge.

they have over 1 Billion people and currently have 81,667 cases.
Their daily increase is now under 100 per day, while we just hit 15,000.
We could actually take over the number 1 spot by tomorrow evening.
And China has over 3x of our population.

went house to house eventually looking for any sick person to quarantine. Trump and republican governors are basically saying that spreading the virus is less damaging than a falling stock market.

So, we could end up being Italy on steroids, they had a problem in the north of the country and locked it down in about 1 month. Trump has allowed the virus to move into all of the USA's 330 million people.

and we are a bunch of rag tag escapees of civilizations near and far out for our individual selves most of the time, at least that is how it seems sometimes. Especially those who vote Republican.

People wear masks there, people follow rules more carefully. I agree that we are headed to the top of this miserable pandemic. I am really really bummed about it.

And feeling worse every day.

is what allowed them to turn their outbreak around. But here, libertarian Rethugs want no rules or community in society.

The simple truth is that ultra-wealthy plutocrats do not want us to have any community in America because we might actually organize against them. Individualism best suits their needs.

Now, they're making plans for big services on Easter Sunday per Trump's suggestion.......

Trump's incompetent management of our crisis has allowed the virus to move into every part of the USA.

We are bigger yes, but the circumstances have been set to have us produce negative numbers unlike any seen elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see what happens in China now that leaders there are trying to "reopen" the country. If that country loses containment upon reopening, the USA stock market is toast, because it will be clear that the only thing which will stop the virus is a cure, then a vaccine for longterm, and neither of those appear to be on the short-term horizon.

Both China and Italy locked down the first epicenters rapidly compared to what has happened here.

I have to admit that you and other people who were worried about this thing in December appear to be right and people like me who believed that we had better capability to contain it were wrong. Trump's incompetence has not helped, especially his dramatically slashing CDC staff in China that could have been literal canaries in a coal mine for us. Trump's rhetoric toward China early on and now hasn't helped and isn't helping in any conceivably constructive way.

But my entire goal was to raise awareness so we wouldn't get to this point.

What terrifies me now is that Trump is giving his followers permision to ignore the state imposed restrictions. A few had just started to be convinced that the restrictions were necessary - and then Trump flipped back to his "this is nothing;" 'it's all politics" routine they jumped right on it.

And - just when the momentary relief that they were finally getting it ended, my daughter turns up with a fever of ~103. So we spent most of the day in search of a working thermometer (the battery in a nearly new thermometer died right after informing us her temperature was between 106 and 107). We finally got one this evening, and it's "only" 102.7.

I need a break.

A temperature of 102 is no joy. I was under the impression that if a person reaches a temperature of 106, the person's internal organs begin shutting down, you must have been terrified by her inaccurate readings.

with her insurance doctor. They prescribed tamiflu, based on their assessment that it is just the flu.

I've got a pretty good sense of what her temperature actually is - and my assessment was that it was above 101, but below 103.

That said, I had chronic tonsilitis when I was young, with a fever of 106+, which is why I drove all over creation looking for a thermometer - just as a reality check on my mom-sense. I remember ice baths, and near ice-water enemas as they frantically tried to get my temperature down.

When we actually got a thermometer late last night it was 102.7.

After taking acetaminophen, it was down to 98.3 this morning. I don't expect that it is permanently down - but 107 was clearly out of line.

My life experience with such people is that they easily make brutally inhumane decisions if the price of maintaining something doesn't look optimal to them. Trump saw expending several million dollars as a problem, the truly bad thing was that him staying home for 6 weekends out of a year would have more than paid for CDC functions in China.

Now a situation exists where in the absence of a cure and or a vaccine, the economy will either shutdown or limp along, costing trillions of dollars, possibly many tens of trillions, before this situation is under control.
