President Trump is as popular as he's ever been right now

(CNN)Here's an indisputable fact: President Donald Trump is as popular today as he has been since his first day in office.

In a new Gallup poll, 49% approve of the job Trump is doing as president while 45% disapprove, matching the highest his approval rating has ever been in Gallup surveys. A Monmouth University poll released on Monday showed Trump at 46% approval, again the best he has done in that poll in more than three years.

What accounts for Trump's rise? Simple: His response to the coronavirus crisis.

In the Gallup poll, 60% of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing in handling the crisis while 38% disapprove of how he has done. Six in 10 independents approve of how Trump has done on the coronavirus as do more than 1 in 4 (27%) of Democrats. In the Monmouth poll, 50% say Trump has done a good job with coronavirus while 45% said he has done a bad job.

The heightened approval for how Trump has managed this crisis -- particularly among independents and even Democrats -- is what is pushing up his overall approval numbers, which have been largely stagnant for years.

WTF? How can this be? His response has been terrible! He waited to long to act! He fucks it up every day and is still lying to us every day! Jesus Christ, he wants to open the economy back up in a couple of weeks! I just don't get it.

Silverspoon George was at 90% after 9/11. He managed that situation dreadfully and started a war with the wrong country. He was an incompetent buffoon with 90% approval.
Less than 50% in a crisis that pulls people into the same lane, is actually terrible.

Say those words... "cash" or "stimulus", you instantly, but temporarily, have the ears of moderates, centrists, and the politically uninitiated.

Give it a few weeks and watch what happens when people don't get money.

will go back down over the next few months. 49% isn’t that great anyway. If we can get him under 45% on Election Day, I don’t see how he wins. Biden will have a very broad and deep coalition going into November that will result, hopefully, in Trump’s utter defeat. At least that’s what I’m hoping will happen because the alternative is unthinkable.

ONE Gallup poll don't mean shit in the big picture. And it's questionable at best.

His approval numbers are not really going up. He's been polling below 50% for the longest time, and there's no real evidence that the numbers beyond his base have risen. Or ever will rise.

Real polling, IMO, won’t be seen for weeks. And believe me, when it happens, it ain’t gonna be pretty for him.

Making people bankrupt and helping cause the death of their loved ones ain't gonna play well even in the red states.

And there's every reason to believe that when COVID-19 peaks in the red states, like Florida and Arizona, they'll fare even worse because their state governments didn't do enough to prepare their populations.

Just my 2 cents.

Tragically, even if DT admin's tremendous failures kill a supporter's nearest and dearest, they will not blame him.

They'll believe his admin did a great job. They'll believe that more of their relatives would be dead, but for the tremendous, stupendous, trump and the magic of "quick action" to ban travel from China to protect us from the Chinese virus. Of course, the ban was was doomed to failure because weeks of no testing, incompetence, and resistance had allowed the virus to circulate here, undetected (because no one was trying to detect) for weeks before the ban.

However many friends, family, and loved ones they lose, they will believe they would have lost many more if someone like evil Biden had been in charge. They'll believe it because DT and the entire Republican noise machine tells them so.

It is not just his supporters buying it.

There is too much vague reference to his "slow response" and "failures." We know what we are referring to when we talk about "slow response" and "failures" -- most other people don't. The people reporting know, but they forget to elaborate on those things. That can't compete with trump's daily lies about how he saved us all with his travel ban.

We need the media out there hammering on all the specific failures and how devastating they were -- particularly the unconscionable actions that led to losing a critical 7 weeks of testing and response time. The critical period in which we had a shot at actual containment. We need analysts directly pointing out WHY those earlier failures doomed the travel ban to failure, and how those failures guaranteed the magnitude of the crisis would rapidly spin out of control.

P.S. Think of this third definition of "tremendous" on dictionary.com every time you hear trump use the word:

dreadful or awful, as in character or effect; exciting fear; frightening; terrifying.

Most people are not twigging to the healthcare system getting overwhelmed, they are worried about dead people.

The whole ploy of the right has been that this is nothing because it is just the flu and will only kill a similar number.

They don't understand that what steps we have taken have mitigated deaths.

That is beside the point.

My sister and I had a big blowup on the phone the other day. She started in about how trump got a late start because the dems were impeaching him and he couldn't do his job. She was screaming at me. So I screamed back, "If you still support this asshole you are a fucking moron," and hung up.
