This is Like a Slow Motion 9/11

Everyone is aware there is a national crisis, and like 9/11 they are desperate for a leader and want to have faith in their leader and so they rally around the flag. After 9/11, Bush shot up to 90% approval. Think about that. I even shut my mouth about him and really hoped he would do the right thing and was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at the time. Obviously, that didn't last long for me.

Trump still can't break 50%, even as everyone knows disaster is barreling down the tracks towards us and we all see it coming. That's pretty remarkable.

Because a) he’s incompetent, and everyone knows it except his base (and some of them know but are in denial); and b) he has a complete inability to inspire anyone except his base.

Evidently Trump thinks all that unity after 9/11 was a big mistake.

3. Bush's statements and actions immediately after 9/11 were appropriate.

I do give him credit for that. I think he tried in his own rather dim way to say and do the right thing. And everybody wanted to believe he would.

Trump has never said or done the right thing. All he cares about is boosting his political standing and making himself look good. When there's a crisis people always want to believe someone is in charge and will come to the rescue, so it's not surprising that His Lardship got a little bump in the polls, provided no doubt by scared people who just want a leader. But we saw what happened to Bush's numbers over time, when he proved he wasn't up to the job. Fat Nixon is starting with a deficit, and he can be counted on to fuck up whatever he touches. Unfortunately for us.
