I worry that this pandemic will be the end of print journalism

We get two print newspapers every day and each has an assurance, in the first or second page, from the editor, that their machines get cleaned, etc.

I would never think of paper, including mail, carrying the virus. And, the newspapers are inside a plastic envelope.

Of course, we do wash our hands constantly, 20 second - we count - edge of nails, thumbs, between the fingers..

The local one thanks the subscribers and, really beg for others to purchase the paper on the vending machine.

that have been dying that will go away more quickly because of this crisis. Getting bills in the mail, and then paying them by mailed checks is probably one of them. If, indeed, more older folks do pass away, then the proportion of people who get and pay bills solely online will rise.

I delivered newspapers in my neighborhood for three years as a teenager, having a paper route gave me a lot of people skills that have served me through life, so I have fond memories of those days. But, I haven't gotten a newspaper for almost two decades now, and that's just progress.

while remaining viable enough to infect anyone?

Or just be a little slow about picking it up. I rarely see the light of day before 9am, so mine sits in my driveway for at least three hours. And I'm not remotely worried that I'll get the virus that way.

I am still getting a print paper, and even though one friend makes fun of me for reading the local paper ("That rag?" he says disdainfully) he's then astonished at how much I know of what's going on in our city.

I have been paying all my bills on line for about six or seven years now. I was astonished when, on a recent visit to my sister who's four years younger, to learn that she still pays all her bills by check.

And yes , except for the utility bills I use the Posal service for everything else.

One way to support the USPS.

At least with the utilities I have to hit the “pay now” button.

All of them - utilities, credit cards - would like to automatically draw the funds and I can see missing a transaction.

And yes, the print paper covers a lot of news. Online and on TV, one really has to dive among all the virus stories.

Even the Census is now online. Except before Christmas with many gifts being mailed and, in previous years on April 15, it is dead..

I really think that it should be considered part of the Defense Dept to be maintained.

the Post Office for years. Apparently a lot of them own significant stock in Federal Express or UPS or some other service.
