(26,355 posts)Only the captain and first officer have access to the safes with the nuclear codes, and those codes are no good unless they're combined with the codes sent by ULF radio from the Pentagon in launch orders - the system will not allow a launch without POTUS authorization (though that brings another scary scenario...)

(26,355 posts)Sailors are packed like sardines on warships. - bunked three-high and 20+ strong in berthing compartments. Only officers get staterooms, and most of them share with a roommate.
On the bright side, most of the people aboard are young - no worrying about 80-year-old grandma on a Navy carrier, but Captain Trumps also kills the young...
One saving grace is that members of the military have NBC training (that's Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) - in case some shithead dictator tries to attack American military forces with anthrax or the like.
So every warship is going to have gear for dealing with NBC scenarios - including masks, hazmat suits, all sorts of gear for isolating, scrubbing, containing, treating... Might slow the spread.
