Gallup: Trump job approval rating matches.......................

Gallup: Trump job approval rating matches all-time high

By Jonathan Easley - 03/24/20 03:03 PM EDT

President Trump’s job approval rating has jumped by 5 points in the latest Gallup survey, matching the high point of his presidency, as a majority of voters say they have a positive view of how the president has handled the coronavirus pandemic.

The new poll finds Trump’s job approval rating at 49 percent, up from 44 percent in the same survey earlier this month. The 49 percent job approval rating is the high mark for Trump since he came into office. He first hit that mark in late January, shortly before he was acquitted by the Senate in his impeachment trial.

The president’s job approval rating has remained steady among Republicans (92 percent), but he’s gained 8 points among independents (43 percent) and 6 points among Democrats (13 percent)......

THIS 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻

As I recall, Gallup was the only poll showing McCain beating then Senator Obama for the presidency in 2008, so when they saw themselves being called an outlier poll, they changed their numbers so that they would fall more in line with other pollsters who cited that Senator Obama pretty much taking a very solid lead over McCain nearing November (Especially after folks really started taking a REAL look/listen @ that dumb, ignorant, racist dingleberry Palin).

Gallup USED to be the gold standard in polling many years ago. But their methodology, number of respondents used, MOE, the lack of diversity of respondents used and the fact that they tailor the polls around respondents who who are older, white, lean mostly right and who use land lines ONLY.

People want to believe it’s all going to be ok so they are going to feel good about someone who tells them what they want to hear. Watch what happens in 10 days. Atlanta’s ICU’s are full now and we are no where near the peak. When we are parking bodies in ice rinks his approval will nose dive.

They need to save the country but when the relief checks hit the American pocketbook, it is drumpf who's poll numbers are going to skyrocket.

People are going to see a deposit and be thrilled.

The reality is if you talk to most people on the street they are going to see this as an "act of God", something there was no way to predict.... and they aren't going to hold drumpf responsible.

Today is not the day to fight that fight.

That fight needs to be had later this year, when Joe Biden needs to call out drumpf for calling this a hoax, for not prepping us with test kits and working on medical supplies MONTHS ago. Everything we are doing now is playing catch up. And Congress needs to support Biden with hearings on the response (and lack thereof) to this crisis to expose what has happened here.... and point out that the thousands of lives were are likely to lose and TRILLIONS of dollars we are about to pass as relief DID NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN

responses they are getting are from older people with land lines. Most people I know, myself included, only have a cell phone and will not answer the phone when they don't recognize a number that they don't recognize or doesn't have a name attached to it (one that hasn't been entered as a contact).

I always figure if it is a legitimate call, like a doctor's office or a restaurant calling about reservations, they will leave a message, so I never pick up. I wonder if they ever record the demographics when they poll. I would imagine most people who only have cell phones and don't pick up are younger, urban, educated and technologically savvy, and therefore would probably skew more liberal.

I only have a cell and if I do not recognize the number or the phone shows it as “potential spam” I don’t answer either. If it is a real call a voicemail will be left. So the older demographic with land lines is a pretty solid theory I had not considered. Thanks.

Jimmy Carter's approval rating soared to over sixty percent in the immediate aftermath of the Iranian embassy takeover. John Kennedy's approval rating soared to over seventy percent in the immediate aftermath of the Bay Of Pigs fiasco. Citizens want to believe their leaders are competent in a time of crisis.

Trump can't even reach fifty percent.

Trump is playing his PR campaign correctly, but he's only gained 5 points from it.

the Democratic nominee does need to show that he'll be a better leader than Trump in a crisis.

in these numbers. In a time like this, everyone wants the President to succeed in resolving the situation because the alternative is unthinkable. But, as others have noted, Trump has not gotten the boost than many other Presidents have in other crises.

Also, remember Bush Is approval ratings after the first Gulf War were sky high; he still lost re-election to what should have been a fatally damaged Bill Clinton (yes, Perot has an impact, but Bush gave Perot an opening to attack him)

Very pro Republican Poll - same time frame as Gallup 3/24

Rasmussen 3/19 - 3/23 1500 LV 46 52 -6

Monmouth - General election and job approval (same polling group, same time frame) bith 3/18-3/22

General Election: Trump vs. Biden Monmouth Biden 48, Trump 45 Biden +3

President Trump Job Approval Monmouth Approve 48, Disapprove 48 Tie

Even with a 48-48 Approve/Disapprove rating, Trump loses to Biden.

Politico/Morning Consult 3/18

President Trump Job Approval Politico/Morning Consult Approve 43, Disapprove 54 Disapprove +11

Gallup is good but this one is probably an outlier

One of the most important criterium for judging a president in history is how he (or she, eventually) guides the country though some crisis. Lincoln had the Civil War, Roosevelt had WWII and the Great Depression, etc. The public sees trump up at the podium every day acting like a president. They aren't digging too deep into what he says or what his proposals are. They're just looking at the optics. And the optics had been looking good for him until the last day or two when he's gone back to sniping at his perceived enemies.

The Democrats, and Joe Biden in particular, better do something to get back on top of the narrative.
