It isn't the total number of cases to watch it is the hospitalizations and deaths

As more people get tested, more people will be diagnosed as carrying COVID-19. Testing is a good thing. It can be used to track the spread.
Realize that just because one tests positive does not mean they will ever require hospitalization. Most will recover on their own.
The hospitalization numbers and deaths will give us a better idea of the doubling time. This it the curve that we need to flatten.

I just mentioned the total cases to indicate that soon this will be a bigger problem, in gross numbers, here than anywhere else.
