Trump Is Painting Himself into a Corner Again

Yesterday's briefing, with Trump hinting that he will loosen restrictions soon, was a serious error on his part. In reality, he cannot even do that. The Governors of various states are tightening up restrictions, not loosening them, and Trump has no authority over those Governors.

I did notice, yesterday, that Trump dropped his moronic references to "The Chinese Virus." What he though was clever before, he has now learned got him nothing but condemnation. I'm not sure who convinced him to drop that clumsy, racist designation, but he dropped it.

He is using his daily rally-style Coronavirus briefings to test his own lamebrained ideas, it seems. When they don't work, he moves on as though he never said those things. That is his pattern. He says outrageous things, and then skips over them later, when they are proven to cause harm.

He fails miserably at leadership. Constantly. He does not lead public opinion, nor the decisions of those with cooler heads and practical sense. He throws things out, as if at random, and then ignores what he has said later, when nothing happens.

Sadly, we cannot be rid of that bloated excuse for a President. Not until January of 2021. We can only hope that more intelligent and thoughtful people will manage to stop him from acting on his foolish and harmful ideas.

Perhaps he'll swallow a fly while his mouth is open.

See how much attention and headlines it is getting?

Trump is good at this, seizing the news cycle. He is a shill and a huckster. We are seeing very few stories of states' unemployment websites crashing for instance.

It so happens that his blather piggy-backs on the stimulus being passed chatter and he gets to crow about the credit tonight

I'm telling older relatives in Ohio, Michigan, Alabama - to go to Murphy's (NJ) facebook live daily briefings, and to source governor Cuomo's briefings. Was telling them this last Thursday. This way they were able to prepare to shelter in place. Our Seniors are secure right now in our family.

and a prediction from one of our posters whom has a background the study of Narcissistic behavior.

He predicted the Orange Anus would cave, and do his best to protect his Self Imagine at all Costs. This whole COVID-19 update, which most here figured out from day one,was just a TV Reelection Rally, has now turned into a platform for him to spin everything until the Congressional Bailout takes the focus off his incompetence.

Appears the pinnacle of his spin is to happen today over at Murdoch Ministry of Truth.

be by then. I'm in Idaho and Washington just went full lockdown. I guarantee you, Trumps words yesterday will ensure our governor won't go for total lock down. We should see our first death any time. 65 cases now. It was only a week ago I think the first was reported.

I at least think Trump will have to back down before our governor takes action.

It's how the myth of Donald Trump was built and maintained over the years: having his public interactions edited, controlled, manipulated. Ironically, The Apprentice was called "reality television," but Trump in the very real job of President cannot so easily, or believably, be edited to hide what he truly is: an ignorant, narcissistic buffoon.

But now I can't find the forum it came from...

"Il bocca chiusa, non c'entra mosca" is from an old Italian proverb and is probably the basis for the 'code of silence' instituted in the Mafia. It is basically a warning that you should keep that information you have to yourself or suffer the consequences such that you would be dead, with your mouth open and flies planting eggs,...the first place flies deposit for the decomposition of the body. I had heard several times that the Mexican Mafia was using this to warn that someone that was bragging about being connected would be dealt with. That was back in the late '50s and '60s when I heard this. It has become my favorite quote because it does convey that if you speak too much about the things you are involved with, it is no longer just your information. Something like: The only real secret is the one that only you know!

He is setting up the blame game. His base could care less if millions die so there is no risk of losing them. He will then point at the states that drive the economy, CA, NY, IL, MA, and blame them for the job losses and recession.

It will be pushed as fact on FAUX News, then CNN and MSNBC will make Dems and Biden defend the shutdowns.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

If he were some random Fox News pundit or old crank on the street (or on the interwebs), he would not command the same level of attention as he does right now- as POTUS. Most sane and rational folk I've seen so far have rejected and/or condemned his non-CDC-endorsed remarks and suggestions about setting an arbitrary deadline for "re-opening" the economy, which is good, but for every person who refuses to listen to Trump, there are at least one or two people whom hang on this idiot's every word and will literally ingest hazardous chemicals because the President said something promising about them as a *possible* unproven/untested treatment for COVID-19. Once Easter happens, those same people will think that that "all clear" has been sounded and it's time to go back to old habits and activities and states and localities may find it increasingly difficult to maintain quarantines even if they're still in place. There's obviously got to be *some* end to this or loosening of restrictions but there has to be some demonstrable progress to warrant it (ie. increased testing, approved treatments, vaccines, declining case/mortality rates). Trump doesn't decide when this happens and he's not demonstrated that we've made the kind of progress that warrants loosening restrictions and it remains to be seem if something significant will be accomplished by Easter.

internationally-reknown expert on fascism and propaganda has a book coming out February 27, 2021, "Strongmen: How They Rise, Why They Succeed and How They Fall." She recently sat for an interview with HuffPost (google this) in which she said that trump is the worst possible person to have in a leadership position right now. She gets down to specifics and the picture she paints is NOT pretty and does NOT end well. She warns that trump is too amoral, immoral to care about people dying. He only cares about power and how to get more of it. She says that he WILL make more and more power grabs as our society shuts down due to COVID-19. Authoritarians fear transparency and accountability, and use emergencies to make audacious power grabs. This is why he is so uncomfortable with science and medicine and the experts who have the credibility to speak with authority.

But he can use this to his political advantage.

People in NY and the west coast will stay home as long as is needed to slow the curve, as is the right thing to do.

Meanwhile, Dumpy will scream from the sidelines chiding those lazy people go get back to work. Then he'll claim that any economic problems are their fault, not his, that if he had his way the economy would be great, etc. He's already got the slogan "cure is worse than the problem".
