EDIT: There actually is a shortage of Excedrin, so nobody should panic that everybody is suddenly hoarding everything.
Thank you to the DUers who made me aware of this.

Is this because people are hoarding Excedrin? I was checking out online prices because my Walmart was out of it three weeks ago, but that was before the local hoarding really started.

(41,832 posts)I checked on the grocery website for Walmart. They are sold out of Excedrine, but the store brand sells for .94 for 24 caplets
People should report this price gouging to both Amazon and Walmart

(24,764 posts)This is an act of hoarding and price gouging of essential supplies. That seller belongs in the slammer.

(92 posts)They have had a supply issue from well before the covid hoarding (there is info on their website). I usually buy the off brand, which did not have similar supply issues.
In the time of covid, excedrin isn't ideal because it has aspirin and anti-inflammatories exacerbate covid symptoms.

(34,074 posts)They were taking steps to shut down price gouging, but they can't shut down what they don't know about.

(2,768 posts)Check just below the price area on the right side of the item in questions screen. Right under the price will be who its being sold by. My guess is its some 3rd party using Amazon marketplace. I wish there was an easy scalper button to get them kicked off, but as is you'd probably have to report them to customer service.

(1,923 posts)Could be lack of supply from China or India. They supply a lot of drugs, especially precursors. India suspended export of a lot medicines and precursors for their own use for the pandemic.

I don't know if anyone ever actually pays that..

(14,154 posts)Look at the cost pf Epi Pen.
Look at the cost of Insulin.
They are jacking up the cost of pharmaceuticals because they know they have a captive audience in a wave of Baby Boomers entering their twilight years where the need for medications sky rocket.
The more the big pharma companies price gouge the more value the return on stocks and common shares. 18¢ of ingredient costs yet sell the pill for $7.50 each, that is a hefty mark up and return/profit.

(10,303 posts)That is assuming the generic isn't available, but acetaminophen (paracetamol) and aspirin are. Excedrin is acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine. Each Excedrin has 250mg each of acetaminophen and aspirin, so 1 extra strength acetaminophen (500 mg) and 1.5 aspirin (325 mg tablet plus 1/2 is 487.5 mg) is roughly the same dose as two Excedrin pills. For caffeine, take pills with a strong cup of coffee. I just do one extra strength acetaminophen and one aspirin as I'm not into pill splitting.
Don't mix with other drugs, and don't give aspirin to kids. I'm not a pharmacist nor a medical professional. If you want to know if this advice is okay check with a pharmacist or doctor.
Plus I believe the branded Excedrin was on recall because of a manufacturing issue, hence the shortage.

(16,616 posts)If it was on recall, that makes me breathe a bit easier.
I don't see this problem with Aleve or Motrin or Advil.
