What we are doing now is not a "cure". It is a treatment to try to mitigate the damage done when that asshole failed in his duties. If he would have acted back in January, when he knew there was a major problem brewing then we would not be where we are today.

That's the argument being made. Not that there's really any evidence to support that. They are extrapolating (but without numbers) from the fact that things like poverty and depression are factors that shorten life, so yes, the things we are doing to protect ourselves from the virus will have some negative health effects of their own.
