Shit just got real in Michigan. I just got an EAS text on my phone banning ALL

non-essential travel. Here's the summary:

Stay home. Stay safe. Save lives.

To combat the spread of COVID-19 in Michigan, Governor Whitmer signed the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order. For at least the next three weeks, all Michigan businesses and operations must temporarily suspend in-person operations that are not necessary to sustain or protect life, and all Michiganders must stay in their homes unless they’re a part of that critical infrastructure workforce, engaged in an outdoor activity, or performing tasks necessary to the health and safety of themselves or their family, like going to the hospital or grocery store.

YOU CAN:

Go to the grocery store or pick up take-out food.
Go to the pharmacy to pick up a needed prescription.
Engage in outdoor activities like walking, hiking, running, biking.
Go to the hospital or secure any care necessary to address a medical emergency or to preserve your health or the health of a loved one.
Fill your car with gas.
Return to Michigan to a home or place of residence from outside the State.
Leave the State for a home or residence elsewhere.
Walk your pets and take them to the veterinarian for needed medical care.

YOU MAY NOT:

Leave the home to work unless your employer designates you as a critical infrastructure worker.
Participate in any public gatherings.
Visit someone in the hospital, nursing home, or other residential care facilities (with limited exceptions).
Go to the mall or to restaurants.

BUSINESSES THAT REMAIN OPEN FOR IN-PERSON WORK MUST TAKE AGGRESSIVE STEPS TO MINIMIZE THE VIRUS’S SPREAD. THEY MUST:

Promote remote work to the fullest extent possible.
Restrict the number of workers present in-person on the job.
Keep employees at least six feet from one another to the maximum extent possible and enabling social distancing for customers who are standing in line.
Any other social distancing practices and mitigation measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.

Information around this outbreak is changing rapidly. The latest information is available at Michigan.gov/Coronavirus and CDC.gov/Coronavirus.

For those who have questions about the state’s actions to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, please call the COVID-19 Hotline at 1-888-535-6136 between 8AM - 5PM daily.

It's not that bad, and oddly weird when you do travel to a shopping center, with 90% of the stores closed.

about the only one wearing a mask and gloves. I’m thinking, wait a week or two and I won’t be alone. No confirmed cases in Isabella county YET.
Stay safe Catbyte.

I am staying as safe as I can. I gassed up my car a few days ago just in case the power goes out at some point. At least I'll be able to charge my cellphone and Kindle. I've got stuff in the freezer to last for at least a couple of weeks and ingredients to make bread if I have to. I'm an introvert so I kinda feel like I've been practicing for this all of my life.

You stay safe, too. I hope Isabella Country stays virus-free. I can't believe how fast it's spread here. This chart really shows it:

Found the love of my life so I now have a room mate and it’s working out great. Sure took a long time. My cat and her two pups are even getting along and my cat doesn’t like dogs. Now that they know she’s the boss.

Its weird I wanted to stay home with this until I was told I had to. Of course I will but its a weird feeling.

Few days ago we took a drive in the country for a few hours just to get out, I read thats not ok.

Thankfully I can walk my dog.

Unfortunately, hubby is considered “essential personnel”. His boss provided him with a letter stating so in case he is stopped traveling to and from work. This reminds me if stories my German aunt told about growing up prior to World War II.

Given that there are no sheriffs or county government, probably not enough police to even try.

Hubby’s drive to work is 40 minutes. He laughed as he walked out the door with his “papers.” He was halfway to the office and saw lights flashing, looked at speedometer and verified he was driving the speed limit. State Police officer tells him to roll down the window and asked where he was going. He showed license and paper, officer apologized for the inconvenience and said have a good day. So it begins.
