WTF is the Romney Campaign thinking?

Why the hell is Mitt Romney throwing himself into Chicago's teacher's strike?
This can't be part of their strategic calculus. What do they possibly hope to gain by going after a local teacher's union? The important swing anti teacher vote on the Gold Coast? In what possible way could getting into something over which you have no influence, and has no national implications, and on top of which is an internal matter between a Democratic constituency and a Democratic mayor IN AN UNCOMPETITIVE STATE....benefit Romney?
I just can't think that a campaign for president is this dumb. Here is where the strike is on the list of national presidential priorities: its not one.
Talk about stepping all over your own message. His comments about the strike were the only news Romney made all day. And the days are getting more precious.
Worst politician ever.

He's still playing to the GOP base there.
It seems kinda late for a move to the center to attract independents, so maybe he isnt going to try.

(54,068 posts)6. This is about locking down the base so he can swerve center for the next 7 weeks
It's a two-fer. The Republican base hates public employees and people who promote critical thinking skills. Also smarties, so it's a a three-fer. They also hate math, so maybe it's even a five-fer.

(116,464 posts)7. Mitt's math is mythical, and his
"swerve" is a perpetual train wreck: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021309321

(129,543 posts)8. It's because it's the city of "Chicago"
which is the President's current "home". And thus, he can get a three-fer to bash unions, teachers, and Obama.
ProSense
(116,464 posts)9. Yes, just what his
campaign needs: more focus on union bashing and his proposal to gut education funding.
Mitt is a desperate idiot.
