Governor Whitmer just released ban on churches gathering more than 50. Shoots the reasoning for the rule all to hell.

(115,878 posts)those are the so-called mainstream churches. It sounds like in a lot of places the fundie megachurches are going ahead as usual. While the result might be a thinning of that particular herd, they can also transmit the bug to others. Dumb move, IMO.

(146,336 posts)stay home anyhow. It's a dim hope, however, for some religious groups, I'm afraid. My advice: If your neighbors head out to church tomorrow, keep your distance from them from now on. If they ask, tell them why you are doing so, from at least 10' away.

(3,145 posts)the judiciary in this country appears to have adopted a very expansive view of religious liberty.
A refusal on her part to exempt religious organizations would have brought a flurry of lawsuits which the state has a great chance of losing.

(4,428 posts)Most churches have already shut down. My church has been shut down for two weeks now, and just announced that they may reopen on May 16--at the earliest, depending on what the CDC says.
But there will always be a few that will not close voluntarily. And that is a problem for EVERYONE.
